Elongated egg...Is this normal?

In Thomas Hardy's book The Trumpet Major, there is a passage which reads, "...included some fresh eggs of the elongated shape that produces cockerels when hatched...". Does anyone know if there is any truth in this?

You should provide free choice oyster shells for your laying hens.
ALL of my birds avoid the oyster shells, even when mixed with their feed. They're starting to collect at the base of the feeder. When sprinkled on the ground they simply get pounded into the dirt.

My old RIR and Easter Egger hens lay elongated eggs sometimes. They barely fit in the carton.

My Easter Eggers are getting a few months into laying and the small long and skinny eggs are being replaced by REALLY long and bigger eggs. I wonder if they make special egg cartons for the EE hens. Not really...They were a big surprise at first. They also just started getting much bluer than before. The girls are so cute with their whiskers.
