EMERGANCY!! DIEING CHICKEN - NEED HELP!!!

I am really happy to hear Eggly is doing better! I just wanted to let you know what I give my chickens when they are sick. I take corn meal, oatmeal and rice then grind it in a coffee grinder into a powder. Then I mix it into a watery paste with water containing probiotics and electrolytes. If they are extremely sick I wrap them in a towel (makes it easier to feed them on your own) put them in my lap and open their beak with one hand and put some of the paste in their mouth with a baby spoon. Just have to be careful not to mush it on the roof as their sinus cavity is there. I have never had a chicken not swallow it on their own. I usually only have to do this once or twice before they realize they love it and eat it on their own. Not sure if this would have worked for you but, wanted to give you another option if you ever come across this again.

Thank you very much!

I will keep what you said in mind the next time I do. I am hoping I never do, but from what I have read on many forums is that chickens get sick. Some people just put them out of their misery others do what we do, we nurse then back to health and make them better. It may have cost me 200$ but in the end its worth it to still have my little Eggly Parrot on my shoulder NOT pecking my eyes like my other hand raised chicken Rocky.

Today she will get more egg yokes and goat cheese rolled in her crumbles again to help her gain weight.

I'm doing the happy dance for you that your dear, sweet Eggy is on the mend!!

I find that when one of my beloved animals is sick it helps to have the encouragement and support of friends (be they virtual or other)...I believe that the power of positive thinking (and prayer) DOES help heal. Really so glad your girl is doing better.

Sadly, I wasn't able to watch the videos...says I'm not invited to see them...but reading your stories is good enough. Take care of you and your sweets (your family...furry or feathered). I would have done the same were I in your place...if we can, we should...because an animal is not a thing, it is a sentient being and a friend.

I changed them to public on youtube so you should be able to watch them now :)

I totally agree with you about having positive people/friends to keep spirits up and in good faith, I did pray an so did my Aunt to St. Fransis.

I think everything helped her, now she looks bored in the brooder giving me that look like "let me walk around the house now Mummy".

I am totally happy, I am making more cheese right now so she has a fresh batch to gobble down along with her crumbles.

Fresh cheese...that is too cool!! You make it sound like you are making a batch of cookies!! I wouldn't know how to make cheese if my life depended on it!! What a happy chicken Eggly must be!!

It was hard in the beginning, since most stores dont sell RENNET, I bought some tablets but it didnt come out right, you can make it with ACV (apple cider vinegar) regular vinegar, or lemon juice.

Bring the milk (goats is lactose free) cows milk or goats to 125-180 f then put it on a cool burner add the 1/2 tsp of rennet to 2 gallons of milk, 1/3c of lemon juice to one gallon of milk, and 1c-1 1/2 cups acv or regular vinegar to 1-2 gallons of milk, you will see it curdle, if you dont add a little bit at a time till you see it separate. Dont stir at all and let it sit for 45 to a full hour, then separate slowly and put into a cheese cloth or MULIN/BUTTER cloth, hang it over night then CHEESE!!!!

Oh and stir slowly until it reaches the 125-180 temp, or you will get a funky film at the bottom, and scorch the bottom of the pot & milk.

How can you properly tell what breed a chicken is?? Eggly has a red beak and black markings on her tail. Buff the buff orpington chicken looks like a true buff orpington. Egglington doesn't.
