I did see the dog. I chased it away and got it to drop the chicken. I dont know who owns it. We live out in the country,but we're next to a subdivision. People seem to just let their dogs run. If I see that dog again on my property, it wont be going home.
351.27. Right to kill tagged dog
It shall be lawful for any person to kill a dog, wearing a collar with a rabies vaccination tag attached, when the dog is caught in the act of chasing, maiming, or killing any domestic animal or fowl, or when such dog is attacking or attempting to bite a person.

I am a dog lover and would absouletly try all avenues to settle this peaseabely first.
Turn it into the police, describe the dog (maybe they know who ownes the dog and can go warn them and shake them up)
If possible fire a warning shot, shot a tree stump with a 30.06 about 6 feet away from the dog.( this stopped my neighbors jack russell 7 years ago and that dog never came back.)
Pen your chickens for now if you can, as that was a whole lot of fun for that dog and he will most likely come back for more.
Neighbors who turn there dogs loose to aggrivate their community and create havoc, not to mention all the accidents that happen to dogs in the streets and highways. Some of these accidents kill people when they are driving and swerve to miss a dog.
How much does the owner really love there animal?
Dogs do get away by accident once in a while, but most time its the owner letting them out on purpose.

I agree with the ‘warning’ shot, but considering where you live a 30.06 may be a bit much. Maybe a .22 for starters? A BB gun might do the trick but remember all or nothing, don’t just injure the animal and send it on it’s way.
