EMERGENCY: 5 month old hen is lethargic, warm, calm! PLEASE HELP!

tigerangel2 - how is she doing this morning?

My 5-month-old barred rock is exhibiting the same symptoms. Thinking that she might be egg bound, I gave her a warm bath - that was not fun! No egg and she is not any better - just wetter. I'm going to go to Petsmart this morning to see if they have any antibiotics. Hopefully, that will help her out.

Good luck with your girl.

Boy! Everyone has a sick hen!

My two-year old Brahma Betty started acting sick yesterday. This morning she was still acting poorly, not eating much, just hanging out by herself under the coop.

So after reading this thread, I decided to give her some Poly-vi-sol in some yogurt, which she ate enough to consume the vitamins. Then later I put her into a crate in the garage and set her up with some water and flock raiser, which she did eat a bit.

Then I decided to dose her with some antibiotics I have for my cat, half a dose since she's about half his weight. Since it's Sunday and the feed store is closed, I figure it'll give her a head start, if it's an infection, until tomorrow when the feed store opens. And she should start showing signs of being better by the morning if it is an infection.

It's so sad when they get sick and die, and there's nothing you can do. I have no vet in my town who knows even the first thing about poultry. I'm on my own.
