EMERGENCY!!! DOG BITE WOUND TO CHICKEN

Is she drinking and eating some today? I would offer fluids and some moistened chicken feed up to her beak often. I even put water on softened scrambled eggs to get more fluids into them.

@Eggcessive Yes, more than the past few days. I made some scrambled eggs and she ate about two-thirds of it. I put some safflower seeds in her water and that encourages her to drink.

Hey @coach723 and @Eggcessive ! I just wanted to give an update on my chickens condition. She is eating and drinking more, but only when I take the time out to feed her with my hand and a plate. She has 24/7 access to food and water but will only eat or drink if I am holding it up to her beak. She enjoys scrambled eggs, mealworms, and tuna feed. She eats more of the eggs and eats them faster than anything else, but she will only eat chicken feed if it has tuna mixed in. I have her on unflavored Pedialyte at the moment, and she drinks a good amount of it. I have some updated pictures of her wounds that I took today attached below. It is worth noting her droppings are still bright green and smell of organ meat, but they have the texture of regular poop. About how long do you think until she at least has skin covering? Also do you think when skin starts to come in, will she peck at her back and side? If so, what could I do to prevent that? Thanks!

I forgot to add that she is still limping and hopping badly. I'm still not 100% sure why though. I do know that she doesn't want to put any weight on her foot and went around three hours sitting in the same spot without moving today.

I am glad that she is eating better. I had to offer feed and egg, tuna and vitamins twice a day up to her beak for about 5 weeks to a hen who could not get to her food or water. Then she suddenly could get around on her own. Are you keeping the wound moist with the antibiotic ointment. You could try making her a a little sash under her body to help walk her around some. Chicken sling chairs also are good for periods throughout the day. Hopefully, she will get stronger.

Hey @Eggcessive @coach723 and @BigBlueHen53 ! The odds of my chicken making it are looking up! Since my last post, she has gradually began to eat more and more. Last night, her crop was about the size of a golf ball- which is a major improvement. She seems to be a lot more alert and a little more energetic. She has been hopping this whole time, and is getting better at it. I do hope that the hopping clears up soon though, as I cant re-integrate her until all issues have cleared up, and that is the only one that has shown barely any improvement. This is her side a few days ago

She now has skin on all of her wound except for this scab on her back

My only other concern is I have not observed her preening during this whole time, I hope she hasn't lost the ability to do so as her tail has moved down due to the injury. Thanks!

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear that she is eating better and moving around. Hopefully, she will continue to heal and improve. Chickens can recover from all kinds of terrible wounds, but it takes weeks. She needs to be slowly reintroduced when she has healed, and a wire dog crate with food and water with the others is the best way to do that. Then slowly, let her have supervised visits until you feel safe.

Glad she's doing better. The limp/hop could take weeks to months, it's very hard to say. The wound on her back was larger and deeper, so I would expect that to take longer. She may not start preening until she's really feeling much better. It's very likely that she is still sore in many places. Hope she continues to improve.
