Emergency - Hen not able to walk, leg dislocated?

Thank you everyone! She's doing a little bit better and still hanging on, but not great still unfortunately. But since she's made a bit of improvement I'm hoping that she'll continue to gain strength.

Unfortunately she was dead this morning. I went to check on her (she's was in the infirmary), but lying down with her eyes closed, limp. Her body was cold. She had food and water and seemed to be doing better the day before, so I'm not sure what happened. I'm really upset, and trying to decide if I should bury her or send her in for a necropsy. I know that a necropsy is probably the best idea so that we know what was going on, but I also usually want to bury my pets, as I feel that's more respectful. But I feel like it's my fault. Rest in peace, Cupcake

Oh. My. What a beautiful girl she was. I am so sorry for your loss.:hugs I know how you feel about burying your pets but. I have so many little 'chicken' graves all over our property that I've lost count. But please have her necropsied, knowing that in doing so her death will count for something as she will be helping you help the rest of your flock. You can set a pretty rock or make a marker for her in your yard to remember her by but a necropsy is the best way for you to know for sure what happened to her.

I haven't been able to read through the whole thread but from your first post and the way she looks I would be suspicious that you could be dealing with Marek's disease in your flock although there could be other things going on. The loss of use in her legs and the wasting are sure signs of the disease.

I invite you to read my article about my sojourn with Marek's Disease:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-i-learned-to-deal-with-mareks-disease.76944/

Marek's disease isn't the end of keeping a flock of chickens for your enjoyment. It's just a big bump in the road that you will be challenged to find a way to deal with. But you can do it.

Please let me know how things go and feel free to ask questions if you have any.
Blessings to you, your flock and in memory of Cupcake.
Becky

Sorry I repeated some of my original post. So many members facing the possibility of MD in their flocks. I have to admit. While I've never had Brahmas, I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Such sweet gentle birds.

I do hope you do the Necropsy for your own peace of mind if nothing else.
