EMERGENCY! I don't know what I've got, but something is WRONG!

My grandchildren (at the time, they were 2,3,4 yrs.) would always kick my little toy poodle when they came over - I think small children think this is their best, safest line of defense, even if there is nothing but a 'perceived' danger in their little heads. As soon as they felt the least bit of fright, out came the foot. I can't tell you how many times I had my back turned, heard my dog squeal, and realized the dirty deed had been done-I could always tell by the guilt written all over them. I never spanked my grandchildren for that, but I did buy a gate and put my little dog behind it every time they came over. Problem solved, but in your case, you'll have to think of something a little more creative than that!

Confine her so she can't injure herself more. Something small like a dog/cat crate. Let her be....she is prolly in shock and handling her more will not help right now. Give her some time to recover. You should have a better idea of what is going on in about 24 hours.
She could have gotten her "bell rung" or it could be serious, but stressing at this point will not help.
This is however, a wonderful learning tool for your children. I have small children (3 and 5) and accidents happen.

Hang in there!

Both of her legs and wings seem to be intact I guess, although the one wing is slightly droopy. When I just got her up though she wouldn't walk on the one leg, but there is no visible or "feelable" break or anything. So do I just keep her inside and keep an eye on her? I don't see how she could have gotten a head injury, my daughter may be five but she would have for sure told me had something happened to the birds head. Any other advice?? She is very alert and there isn't any blood of any sort. Someone had mentioned disease? Would the onset be that quick and what kind of disease would cause that? Cures? Treatment? Does is spread to my other girls? Sigh, this sucks.

Since you know there was some sort of injury, I see no reason to start worrying about a disease; a bit too much coincidence there. There could be a concussion without their realizing the had harmed the head, maybe in the jerking of the bird that sounds like could have happened.

Afraid it's a wait and see thing, if no other symptoms develop.

Chickens are pretty good at healing. She had to be quite frightened and quite possibly is a bit in shock from that. Give her time and peace and quiet to recuperate.

Good luck.

I wonder if she was yanked up by the wing and dropped on her head. Give her time and some TLC in a small cage - away from the kids. Put her food and water right in front of her so she doesn't have to work to get at it. Good luck.

There was a definite wing pull and grab so I would gather then that if she is injured it's her wing. I'm going to put her in a cat crate and wait and see, how long would she take to recover if it was a leg or wing injury?

Is she eating? Does she just sit with her feathers ruffled up?

I hate to say it.. but it doesn't sound like an injury to me...

For sure keep her isolated.. time will tell.

this is perfect. make sure she has some water and food. you'll be amazed at what they can live thru. keep her calm - maybe put a sheet or something over her cage (but make sure she is cool).

keep her confined over nite and let us know whats happening tomorrow.

She's in the crate now, and was just eating the food I put in front of her. She's peeping every once in a while but when she was still on the blanket and tried to stand up she was falling over and kind of rolled on her back, sommersault style. It's tough to watch. I hope she's alright.
