Emergency Please Help *Update on Prolapsed Vent *

Well we are back from the vet and she is doing fine. The veterinarian cut a slit in the sac, which we ended up finding out was her uterus or the equivalent of one in a chicken, and he popped the egg out. He stitched her up, pushed everything back in and put two stitches on either side of her vent to keep everything inside. I guess she might have a reproductive deformity that allowed the egg to get like that. Only time will tell if she will live. My family has agreed that if it happens again we will have to put her down =/. After care entails antibiotics, a watchful eye, and a darkened enclosure. Thanks everyone for the quick responses, it is so lovely to have so many people help out in such a short, critical time. I will post another update in a couples of days, thanks again.

Sending more good wishes

I really hope she pulls through OK!

Since you've put all this time and expense into her, maybe you could have her "fixed" so she won't lay anymore eggs and cause it to happen again. Keep us posted!

I have never seen something like that before. Thank you for sharing, even if it was for help. I'm glad some BYCers were there for you. Please let us kow how she is doing. Best of luck to you, your family and the dear chicken!. ~KimberlyJ

I just wanted to update you all on how my silkie is doing. Today she decided to lay another egg. I walked into her recuperating room to see how she was doing and to my horror she was trying to lay an egg. there was blood dripping and a bulge where the egg was about to come out. God i was so scared. I thought she was going to have another prolapse from all her straining so I hastily took her to the vet. On the drive there, she began to quiet and stopped moving around under the blanket. My heart sank for a minute... I peered under the sheet and to my surprise there was a bloody egg, but an egg!!! I was so relieved and happy. Anyways we got to the vet, they took her stitches out and he said everything looks good and that its a good sign she passed the egg with relative ease, considering she had an even smaller hole to pass the egg with. God i'm so happy!!! Today feels like its going to be an awesome day:D

Oh and how to i change the header? I want to add "update" so i dont mislead anyone to thinking i still need help.
and is there anyway i can add tags to this post? i want it to be easily found so another newbie, like me, wont be scared out of their mind when this happens to them

Glad to hear it.

Go to your first post and click on the edit button in the bottom right corner. You can edit your title. I don't think you can add tags, but you could put the word plolapse etc in your title.
