That's how it always works in the movies, right? Well, except Skyline, but that one was stupid.

Then again, they may be terrified of us, since we're so warlike that we're perfectly willing to detonate nuclear weapons in our sole biosphere. Can you imagine what would happen in REAL life if a giant alien ship descended over Earth? It'd get every nuke in the arsenal sent towards it. There's actually a book series that deals with aliens invading Earth - aliens that have never met any species that can fight back. They find Earth... rather unpleasant.

If aliens were real and were totally unified and never fought each other, odds are good that human weapons would be way superior - after all, warfare is what drives weapons development.

BTW, I don't think aliens exist - this post is just for fun. Although the subject is fascinating to hypothesize about.

Chances are if they were able to travel across galaxies to get here, our nukes would be a bit of a joke to them.

There is most likely a few planets out there capable of supporting some form of life. Alien life can truly be put in the same category as a higher power though. No proof at this point. Maybe someday though.

When I was a kid we had Confirmation in the 6th grade. Had around 3 years of Saturday mornings sitting in the church classroom while our friends were at home enjoying the weekend. Yeah I didn't like it. I was an alter boy too. That was kind of fun. Back in the days when the Priest put the wafer in your mouth and the alter boy had to hold that little plate under peoples chins to catch the crumbs. Didn't want the body of Christ all over the floor. We didn't share the germs on the chalice back then either. The Priest dumped all the crumbs into the chalice and drank it all down.

Never did a Latin Mass. They only offered them at one service and it was at the Cathedral down town. My Dad grew up when they did Latin Masses and always missed having them. Keep up the faith. I lost mine many years ago. It is a good anchor for a lot of people though. Even though there's a lot of evil in religion, there is also a lot of good. Just like everything in life. You just have to find the good.

Enjoy today. It's very special to a lot of people.

The last time I went to Mass was 1982. I was an alter boy in 72. No Latin. I'm sure they probably bought Latin masses back for a few because they have changed regular Masses so much to keep people coming in. There are people that long for the old days. I'm sure you've noticed that a very large number of Catholics only go to Easter and Christmas Masses. My Dad didn't miss a single Sunday or Holy Day Mass in his entire life.

Well, not really. Most people I know, wouldn't miss a mass on Sunday for almost anything. (There are certain cases where sombody might NOT be able to go, like if their sick, or they cannot find a Catholic church) Some DO go to daily mass, but they don't always because they have big familys. Like, 8 kids.

My point was that if they're some kind of unified, vaguely dystopian species as they're often portrayed, they'd have practically no weapons tech, except that suffecient to deal with their native wildlife. Discord promotes weapons developement - our nukes would be terrifying to a species that DIDN'T constantly infight.

On the subject of searching for aliens, SETI is the biggest waste of tax dollars in the history of the universe. Even if we DO find a pattern, what are we gonna do about it?!
