If the wormer is liquid couldn't you just soak some raisins in it?

I guess you could, but I'm thinking that the benefit of injecting it into a grape is that the medicine is contained like a pill, and the bird swallows it without tasting the medicine. Since the emu would swallow it whole, you'd know that all the medicine went down. It wasn't my idea, but when I read it, I thought it would work great with any species that didn't chew. I have an amazon parrot, so something like that wouldn't work for him.

So, The question has come if Emily if actually a he and not a she.. hmmm I spoke with the couple that I got (s)he from today and they were telling me that (s)he was part of a pair. That the other emu had been killed by a pack of dogs and that Emily had managed to get away.

They thought it was the male that had been killed, but now I'm wondering. Emily has a very "mothering" way about her/him. They were telling me that the family actually got Emily baby ducks and that she watched them like her own. Will a female do this?.. Everything that I have read says that the males are the "moms"..

Also, the noise that she makes, isnt a LOUD type drumming.. sounds more like a tub that is almost drained of water.. I have heard her growl like a dog, and I did, (maybe I'm mistaking for not being around an emu) that she did a booming.. but nothing as loud as mentioned above.

I had no luck on the worming.. hahhaa.. no luck at grapes... but.. but.. he/she does love the back of her head rubbed, and the top of her body..

I <3 himshe.. lol..

Mine like bread also...... could put some on bread if she likes that. With chickens we put 3 cc to a gallon of water of the liquid SG.... not sure what an emu would need however.
Yep, males are the care takers. Females lay and leave then the males sit the nest. I do believe that they can both help guard the chicks, but it mostly is the male for a time.
It might take some time but you'll fiquire out what gender it is... there is always DNA sexing too... about $20.

Guys, could you squirt the medicine INTO a fresh or dried fig? (I can't try this because I don't need to worm my birds.) My emus will gulp a zillionty figs without slowing down.

I came here excited of our Emu.. ... Gosh, .. It's with a heavy heart.. very heavy heart, and tears, that I say that Emily was Murdered. I feel like I am to blame. She was in a section protected by the mini mule.. He loved her so much.... I did everything that I could.. even electric.. .. She was in the barn, ..and .. something got in with her, killed her when we were gone.. I can see where the mini was able to pull the gate back, broke the ties, and chased it out.. but she had to have been already gone.

When we left, we put our dogs away.. My gut told me to leave them out (they loved her too).. I should have.. maybe she would still be here..

I dont know, We have 4 horses, and the two minis around her.. .. whatever it was had to have cleared a 6 foot fence, into her.. ( i didnt have electric over it) .. or went thru the mini's area into where she was.. thru electric and horse fence. Again, the mini mule is super protective.. . We have Mt. Lions around here, but never any history of them killing anyone's livestock.. They follow the deer down in the winter, and the locals have seen a male.. but again.... There are no tracks, and it had to have happened durning the day.. Game and Fish are not sure.. but they said if we see a lion hanging around, tracks, or whatever.. we have permission to shoot him.. She limped really bad.. so she probably couldnt protect herself.. That was our job.. Whatever it was didnt bother my roo.. or the bunny.. just her.. It looks like whatever it was got her when she was laying down too..

She was my first Emu.. I had thought maybe she was a he.. because I was told about her taking care of baby ducks.. and she loved the roo and the kids.. . I just dont get it.. I'm heart broken..

On top of that.. We were waiting for the G&F guy.. and my 3 year old son climbed up on the gate to see her. Before I could stop him, he says.. "Mommy, the Birdy is broken".. with these huge tears.. I had covered her where she had been bit so he didnt see any of that.. .. I told her she was sleeping.. and he was okay then.. my husband and I just looked at eachother..
