EMU PICS as Promised Photo heavy!

preppy*hippie*chick :

I worked for a lady who had some exotics and the emus were in a pen with several goats. They lived peaceably til the goats had babies. The emus promptly dispatched them by tossing them high in the air. My personal experience was that they were very nasty birds, this incident aside. Perhaps it was their upbringing, hope so!

Five years together and the emus have never bothered the goats or their many babies. Mind you they are all in a pen that is nearly (if not) 2 acres in size. Of course, from our experience, goats arn't innocent. They like to occasionally walk up to an emu and take a bit bite out of its tail feathers. You can actually see a bald spot on the side of the male in the video link I posted. Generally, the birds are pretty good with people too. Just be cautious when turning your back to them.

Yes, what DO you Do with them?

Pets. Simply really cool pets. I hear their red meat tastes like beef, but we wouldn't eat ours. Their very large eggs make HUGE omelets.

Yes, but they are successfully raised in many other places around the world. They really seem to love Florida. They actually live in the front yard behind tall fences in Archer, FL. They are much cooler than plastic flamigo lawn ornaments. But don't tell them that, they'll let it go to their heads.
