I worked for a lady who had some exotics and the emus were in a pen with several goats. They lived peaceably til the goats had babies. The emus promptly dispatched them by tossing them high in the air. My personal experience was that they were very nasty birds, this incident aside. Perhaps it was their upbringing, hope so!
Five years together and the emus have never bothered the goats or their many babies. Mind you they are all in a pen that is nearly (if not) 2 acres in size. Of course, from our experience, goats arn't innocent. They like to occasionally walk up to an emu and take a bit bite out of its tail feathers. You can actually see a bald spot on the side of the male in the video link I posted. Generally, the birds are pretty good with people too. Just be cautious when turning your back to them.
