Emus? Why?

I don't know. I guess it fits in with the rest of the local laws which are extremely limiting when it comes to raising livestock.
For example it is illegal to raise more than 10 hens or to sell even a single egg! The law isn't enforced on backyard flocks, but I suppose it could be one day.
 
Emus serve as a food source for eggs and meat, and their oil is collected for its health benefits, so they are commercially viable.

For us, they're pets,something different to explore, something unexpected, and something out of the ordinary. It's even a welcomed challenge. We just hatched two and have no idea what we're in for!
