Encouraging chicks to roost

You guys! When I learned that word "thigmotactic"back in the 70s studying biology, I thought it a very splendid word and I shared it with a chimney sweep doing my fireplace. He was a young man and he also thought it was a splendid word he could use. He planned on sharing it with his girlfriend to demonstrate that he could use some sex.

Look what I found when checking on my Chicks at 5 am.

Yep, a Chick roosting at 6 days old. GC

"thigmotactic"
I just looked up that word. It's not in my dictionary.
But my dictionary was last updated a few years back. Back in the 20th Century. 1969 to be exact. 🦖 Yeah when T rex roamed the land. GC

ETA; I looked it up on the internet, it's in newer versions of dictionaries.
Hmm, I should get a new dictionary. Nah, I'll just Google it.

😱 That never crossed my mind! Oh my goodness, you made me snort! 🤣🤣🤣

Edited to remove extraneous quote.

I also think you'll get better results once the chicks are integrated in (yes I'm also an early integration person). They'll learn to roost from watching the adults, even if the adults give them a hard time at first.

Alternative is to go in at night/at late dusk and manually place chicks on the roost.
Thanks! I tried the latter approach last night and it was less than successful. I think I'll accelerate integration instead.

That made me laugh out loud, hard. I've aged from often thigmotactic into mostly athigmotactic, but if I should ever be interested in sex again, I am definitely going to use this word, along with my other (receding) charms. It'll garner laughter (or possibly bewilderment), if not intimacy.
