I have an IB hen that is probably not over four or five years old at the most. She is not the only hen in the pen so I could not be totally sure that some of the eggs this year that have been 'not normal' were all hers, but it is starting to look like the only hen laying now is her.

In the last two weeks I have had three unusual eggs. The 160gm double yolker in the thread titled OUCH, another that was broken and ate when I found it and this one from last night.

The poor hen in question looked like this the day before and I was going to look for a stuck egg when I found the above egg.

So, my question is, Are egg defficiencys a sign that the hen may be at the end of being able to lay normal eggs, or is it a temporary problem, or just the end of season?

My CBS/Oaten hen laid fertile eggs until the age of 18, and right now many of my hens that laid this year are over 10, I don't think she cold be at the end of her laying years, unless it is a fluke of some kind. I think it's more likely just a bad year for her and I would wait and see what happens next year.
