END OF FEB. HATCH-ALONG, ANYONE?

Not sure if I'll be able to set at the end of Feb. Would love to be able to though. I have 12 hens and 1 rooster. 1 barred rock, 2 buff orp., 4 sex-links, 3 americanas, and 2 red-laced wyandott's, our rooster is a wyandott, (he's so beautiful with his white and black feathers and dk. green tail feathers!). One buff, and my BR have turned broody. My question is. . All the hens lay in the same nesting box. . I have six boxes, but they all want to lay in the same box.

If I move the eggs and the two hens to the 2 far boxes, will the other hens leave them alone and continue to lay in the first box, or will they try to lay in the ones I've put my broodies in? I have a greenhouse I can move them to, but it's not insulated or wired so I couldn't put any extra heat in there (we live in NE Iowa), and since it's still getting pretty cold at night, I don't want to risk moving them till it's warmer out. HELP!!

they'll probably continue to lay in thier usual box. it is a good idea to seperate hens with chicks though. some chickens will peck or even kill fuzzy little intruders no matter how momma tries to protect them. i wouldn't keep chicks with non-broodies unless they were like silkies or somthing docile and mellow that that

Awesome, Illia!

I just had my first incubation accident -- bumped the egg carton and WHAM... two broken eggs. They were some of my unsures that I was checking again. One definitely quit a couple of days ago, but the other one was a good egg. I am sad. However, I now only have three unsures. I was able to spot veins or movement in all the others!

I'll join! I have a batch of 6 Ancona duck eggs due on the 26th. These are our first duck eggs, and they are all swimming around happily

. Very happy because these were shipped eggs, and I usually have really bad hatch rates when they're shipped. I'm also finishing up a hatch of seramas right now, which are due tomorrow.

Illia, are you still a serial candler like you used to be? You can not candle accurately at day 3, 4, and 5 I keep tellin' ya!

Now, leave those eggs alone girl!

I candle anywhere from day 2-4, then leave them be until right before lockdown. I'm a pretty skilled candler so I'm usually always right on my first go, around day 2 or 3, but I usually have just a couple unsures that I check the next day. Then they're left be.
