End Of Humanity Anxiety...

Make sure all your physical needs are being met. Pay close attention to diet and exercise. Keep your protein and fiber levels high and maybe add a vitamin mineral supplement. The chewables at Wal-Mart metabolize well. Get adequate(8 or 9 hrs) sleep and maybe look into the possibility of Seasonal Affective disorder. Don't overlook the spiritual part of your make up. If you don't already know what you believe, start the search. If you know, spend time in that area. Some people recommend drugs for this problem but I think that should be a last resort for only the most severe problems. Even then, they rarely work long term. Oh, and be careful what kind of entertainment you use. Too much news, scary tv and movies do make things worse. Love and prayers, Kate

As far as the Mayans, think of their calendar as ending in December. After December, you start a new calendar. The end of their calendar was not the predicted end of the world. It just showed when they needed to break out the rock and chisel and make a new one. Some people make a living trying to scare us. I know, honesty does not make good TV.

Some anxiety is part of being a teenager or just a member of the human race. I assure you we all have anxieties. Think of a parent the first time their child rides a bike to a friends house alone on those streets with all that traffic.

You may have issues that really need to be addressed by a lot more than an on the web forum. I'm no professional in the field so I cannot say for sure. Do you have a trusted member of the clergy you could talk to? Their are even govenrment agencies that may be able to help. I realize in your specific situation it may not be easy.

If your anxiety is effecting the way you live and interact with people or it debilitates you, please get help. You did worry about it enough to post on here to start with. But whatever you do, be assured you are not alone. And maybe not so much Nostradomus on the History Channel?

Do you have too much time to think on your hands? I mean besides school? Get involved in something that is in your age group. Find something to enhance your ability or make your brain work other than to get so nervous about the end of the world or other disasters. Life is for living and it sounds like you need to explore something for your time. Besides, if you are a Christian, then the end of the world isn't going to be so horrible. Death isn't something to be so feared......we all have our time and it is beyond our control. So go find something to enjoy and do! LIVE!

edited just to clarify that if you are Christian taught then you shouldn't have a fear of the end. Not that only Christians shouldn't have anything to fear.

Don't let these things get to you. People are overreacting about the 2012 'end of the world' scare. In the Mayan civilization, nothing ended, it just started over again. Kind of like an odometer. Here's part of an article from USA Today.

But scholars are bristling at attempts to link the ancient Maya with trends in contemporary spirituality. Maya civilization, known for advanced writing, mathematics and astronomy, flourished for centuries in Mesoamerica, especially between A.D. 300 and 900. Its Long Count calendar, which was discontinued under Spanish colonization, tracks more than 5,000 years, then resets at year zero.

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

If you want to read the whole article, here's the link.

that does help quite a bit actually its nice to have some one share my problems. I also have major stomach problems and joint problems (I personally think the joint problems are from pacing because i pace when I get nervouse or upset).

oh yeah and I should probably say this.... my parents are always nagging me to stop ready so much (the reason i read is to get lost in another world so i don't have to think about my problems it works pretty darn well too) but it really bugs me cuz my parents are always like "we know reading expands your mind and everything but there is so much other stuff to do then just sit on a couch!" they actually said that, then I said "well I could be doing something worse" and that got them quite. I litterally wory about vomiting like all the time (because I have a very very sensitive stomach) I mean one minute I could be just fine then all of the sudden

I have a child who is a worrier. It is very hard to stop thinking about these worrisome things. Sometimes when he is worried - he will just come and say "I'm worried - can I have a hug?" - then we all feel better for a little while. Is there something else you can decide to do when you are worried? When I worry - I knit - it keeps my hands busy and my mind busy.

i READ WAY TOO MUCH and too fast... I finished a 400 page book in 4 hours or less... I was worried about my sister and wanted to escape. ( my sister is pregnant.. makes me anxious about the baby dying or somthing. that would be bad

My advice. Be a good person. Live each and every day as if it were your last. It likely won't be but if your emotionally prepared it won't scare you. That's what I do........hope it helps.
