Enough ventilation? 6x6 coop

Ventilation indicated by the orange boxed sections. 4th wall (back wall not shown) is were the perches will be so not sure if I should vent the top of that wall (would match the front facing wall with triangle) or if I should have that 1 solid wall??

6x6 Coop. I'm in Southeast GA so we get hot and humid but also hurricanes lately....

Should I just frame in these opening and do hardware cloth, or should I make them so that they can open and close? Or at a minimum the front (seen below) and the nesting box walls should have awnings over the window??


Ah so many decisions before I officially break ground!

Plenty! I would cover those open space with windows or hardware cloth.

Thank you!! Thinking the top portions just the hardware cloth, everywhere else "awnings/windows"--- Just hardware cloth too in the smaller 4 rectangles as those are salvage cabinet doors that I am cutting the frame out of...

I'd vent that back wall, also, but even if you don't, I think you'll be good on the ventilation you've shown.

Ditto. Those upper vents should stay open all winter, you still want to have enough ventilation even when it's cold. The roosts don't need to be that high, but if you have exposed rafters or cross beams, birds will be roosting up there.

The lower vents should probably have open and close ability so you have more control over drafts if necessary. Instead of making whole doors for that, what if you used plexiglass? That's what I do just for the winter, because these windows are right at roost level:

I don't think you can ever have too much ventilation.

That upper triangular portion should stay open (HWC) as others have said.

You know where the prevailing winds come from and where the coop is situated. Also the roosts are likely going to be impacted by winds seasonally since some of your areas of ventilation are at the height of the roosts. So, any opening that would provide a draft to the birds during windy weather when they are on their roost should be able to be closed. You’ll always have the uppermost ventilation open irregardless. Also, the closing of any ventilation would be short term as your weather isn’t generally too bad!
