Hi Everyone,

I am wanting to worm my turkeys and am finding so much information that my head is spinning. I think I would like to use the Eprinex, but want to be sure it kills cecal worm, and want to be sure of the dosage. I have blue slates, they are full grown, so I'm not sure what the dosage would be.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Eprinex isn't a broad spectrum wormer and won't do anything for cecal worms. You want to use something like Valbazen or Zimectrin Gold. Valbazen would be 1cc for a large turkey and Zimectrin gold would be a small pea sized amount. 10 days after first worming, dose again.

Oh. I am so confused. I read several sites that said that Valbazen didn't kill cecal worms. If I were to give them Valbazen would it be orally or as a drench? I've never wormed any of my poultry before, but worry my turkeys won't be as worm resistant as my other fowl.

Albendazole will kill cecal worms. Now, Ivermectin will too, but I doubt the effectiveness of topical, pour on meds. You want to get the med in the digestive system where the worms are. Albendazole kills more worms than Ivermectin. I'm not sure of withdrawal periods with Ivermectin either.

I wouldn't worry about resistance unless you were to use the same wormer for years to come. I go back and forth with a few different wormers.

From what I have read on the web, Valbazen (albendazole) kills *all* worms, but, according to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, it is toxic to pigeons, doves and crias (baby camelids) and has caused aplastic anemia in other species of animals.

Curiously, what sites were those?

IMHO, if you have other animals, kittens, cats, puppies, dogs, foals, horses, etc., get some Safeguard, I think it can be used on all animals. Just remember that it does not treat tapeworms.
