When the time is right they will start popping out eggs, and screaming like a banshee “she’s in my nest, she looked at me, she is eating from my food bowl”….. and so on and so forth 😆👍
Those danged hormones...they get us every time and accuse us of every mood deemed unexplainable otherwise...🤣

17 weeks and a few days. For both the SFH’s and Pebble and Nyx. It’s a bit early tbh but they are almost all really quite red in the comb and the boys are more than a little interested. So, soon I think.

Astrid is gorgeous! 🖤
Yours are definitely closer than mine. 💗

Thank you, she is a lovely girl! 💞

Yeah, I expect the SFH’s to lay first for sure. Probably around 20 weeks or so but you never know! Nyx I think may well wait till Spring with other chicks. Pebble will never lay any eggs, he is too busy crowing and being a silly teen boy pecking my shoes when I round them up to go back in 😡. He may be tiny but he doesn’t lack for nerve I tell ya.

I hate to say this - but having a good, strong Roo who isn't afraid to defend his harem (even if it is to tell YOU he doesn't like what you are doing), isn't such a bad thing.

He is adorable....and 'women' like good 'strong' men. 🥰 :lau 🥰

Wha?? I missed a post or three. First adorable chicks and now eggs to hatch. The surprises keep coming from Canada 🇨🇦. I am thrilled for you :) can’t wait to see what hatches!!!

Well to be fair I don’t really want more chooks, but those two silkies just wouldn’t stop, and it was about 5 weeks when I popped the babies under them. I have the devil of a time getting day old pullets!

Freys Hatchery was able to send me 5 to Queensville which is a good 40 min or so away. When I picked them up I noted one of the chicks has died in transit so they had to refund me for the chick.

THEN I saw them….. OMGosh! Guinea keets and there was a lavender one. Soooo adorable. Oh it took all my will power not to get a couple. But now I know where they are so next year if I can I will get a couple. But I need to research them first.

Ok that’s the chicks, now the eggs.

Whiskers decided to go broody and there was no way in H E double L I was going to try chicks with her again. That’s when I saw the Ad on Kijiji for Tolbunt Polish. I thought of throwing half a dozen under her, but again I was very hesitant, but I knew my neighbour had polish so I asked her for a few eggs, I put 3 Polish and 3 Silkie eggs under her. She in a separate pen closed off from everyone, I make her get off twice a day and she has been really good. She sticks to that nest, they are due to hatch on the 29th or 30th. I am hoping she waits till the Friday so I can keep an eye on her.

And now you know the rest of the story.

As for the extra chicks I might keep one or two of the Noirans, if that remaining Polish egg is a buff laced pullet I will definitely keep it.

Crazy chooks why can’t they be like Tippy and not go broody, and come home when I call!

Up she flies!

Thanks for catching me up. I will keep my fingers crossed for a silver laced Polish chick to hatch and for it to be a girl if it does! The Marans are cute as can be. I truly am excited for you. Even if you do end up rehoming some of them, it’s still fun to watch their antics both the moms and the chicks.

It’s okay so far. He seems to be saying stop herding me, I don’t like it vs I shall peck you into oblivion, you are a huge threat. I think he will chill with some time to grow into his hormones. He’s to little to scare the kids so we will work with him and watch and see how it goes. One day at a time.

Thyme keeps him in line without harming him. I feel lucky it’s worked out as well as it has. I definitely took some risks mixing sizes and two Roos of different sizes as well. But so far so good (knock on wood)🪵.

Thyme - He is turning into a fine rooster.

She has an Ethel, Delft, Roadrunner, and RePecka (or maybe Gentle) egg I believe. She's in the second favorite box for the tall coop, but third overall. That is as good as I will get with her.
4 marked eggs, so hopefully she will have a couple hatch if she sticks with it.

And hopefully it stays cooler now. I think here Saturday will be hot again but it’s not eggspected to be hot any more, so that should be good for both our broody ladies.
