Go with molasses then.
Dang it. I can't get her to drink this. She will let me syringe water on her beak to drink but I think she hates this stuff. I don't have any tube feeding supplies. And don't really know how to tube feed. 😥 Plus she's alert enough that she will FLIP OUT if I try to restrain her to tube feed. She flips when I restrain just to quickly give the miconozole. Shoot!

Wrap her in a towel. Do you have someone who can help you?
You can gently pull down on her wattles and she will open her beak.

Did you watch any videos of where to put the Syringe or dropper?

I've only done it once. It doesn't go in the middle where you see an obvious opening, that will aspirate her.

Watch a video. The dropper will take longer but you should be able to get most of it in.

Thanks for the tips. She doesn't have waddles yet. She's only 4 months old. So I have to physically open her beak with my one hand while holding her with my other hand while she's wrapped in the towel on my lap. She hates it. I have to wrap her in a towel when I give the miconozole. She flips out to the point of nearly hurting herself even just for that. Luckily she's my nicest hen (hence my favorite 😍) and hasn't tried to bite me through all of this. I have another hen that if this were her, she'd have bitten the heck out of me already!

I managed to only get about 6ccs of the molasses solution in her 🥴 before she reallyyyyyy started flailing and hollering and panting in the towel more than usual. I'll try again in the morning. I figure me trying to do this in the evening she wouldn't do well with a ton of sugar to hype her up on the roost all night anyway!

Where did you get your feeding tube and syringe? What size? I think I've seen the big syringes at Tractor Supply but not sure about to tube that would fit it. Do you happen to know? I've watched videos but the way she flails I feel nervous she'll hurt herself possibly even internally if I try the tube. I don't have anyone to help. It's just me. 🫤

I so very much appreciate your time in answering all of my million questions!

As an alternative, put straight molasses into a cough syrup cup and dip her beak into it and watch her swallow. Don't hold it under for long , just a couple of seconds. This will get some of the molasses into her, then see if she'll drink water after that.

Ah, good idea; I'll do that. I think I could also try and wrap her up in the towel and maybe syringe straight molasses in a few times (a little less than 1tsp since she's only 4 months). And then once she's out of the towel and calm and not mad at me anymore she'll let me drip water on her beak while she's laying down. Usually with her eyes closed half asleep lol

Thanks so much!

You would need help to tube feed her. Do you have any friends or neighbors with chickens? Or even just a friend to hold her?

I had to do it on a mini rooster. Once the tube went in he was very still. My husband held him and I got his beak open, then put a chopstick in crossways so he couldn't close his beak all the way before I inserted the tube. I lubed the end so it would slide down easier. I'll try to find a good video in case you go that route. Or you could keep going with what you're doing. Maybe a few cc's then a break and then a few more.

I used some new narrow tubing from when I had to give my cat sub Q fluids and a pipette syringe. I keep them on hand in various sizes along with luer lock syringes for needles in case I need to drain fluid off a chicken. I got them on Amazon.

I've never had one peck or bite me when working with them but I have 2 very strong girls that will beat me to death with their wings.
I used my cats thunder shirt the last time I needed to do anything with her. That worked great. Like a straight jacket she couldn't get out of.

Are you keeping her in the coop with the others? Where are you working on her?

I have a space set up in my basement and they seem calmer than when they can see their friends and coop. Plus if you keep her separated you can tell exactly what is coming out of her. And she can save her energy.

Since she is a younger girl and not full size then maybe that little bit of molasses will be enough to get things moving

Most people I know don't have chickens so they wouldn't know the first thing. Heck, this is my first go with chickens myself so I'm learning as I go! Only reason I did the towel wrap trick was because I used to be a vet tech and with cats we would definitely wrap them so we wouldn't be clawed to death! So I figured the same for a chicken. I wouldn't have thought I'd have this crop issue at such a young age. Ugh.

I have been bringing her inside into my laundry room during the last 2 days and I obsessively check on her, force drink, give soft foods, and sit with her practically every 20 minutes or less. It's so hot outside so I wanted her in the AC and this way I can see exactly what she is eating and what her poop looks like. 1 day before this I had her in a cage inside the run with the others and it was OK but it's HOT and she's already dehydrated so I didn't want to add to that, plus it's hard for me to force water when she's in there and all the other nosey chickens are jumping all over my back as I couched down lol. Anyway, after being inside all day, then put her back outside with the flock at 5pm so she can reintegrate and then can roost with them. She just lays down out there. :( Today, though, one of her flockmates acted like she didn't recognize her and walked right over to try and dominate and peck her as if she were a new chicken when I put her back in the run with them! I had to shoo the flockmate away a few times with my own finger peck. Bandit (the sick chicken) tried to handle her own a few times, but she did get knocked down on the pecking order since she doesn't have energy to stand tall, chest up, and "argue". So now I fear taking her all the way out all day because she will "lose" her flock because they won't recognize her, and pecking order status (she's the head hen). Reintegrating her as a singleton might end up being a terrible ordeal. How do you do this once your mended chicken from your basement is ready to go back outside? I have 2 different flocks in my run so I feel they'd both gang up on her. I don't have the mental capacity to have a single house chicken lol. Plus my house is all carpet lol 💩

How often should I give the molasses flush? Just once a day? One-time only? Or?

Is there another friendly hen you can put in with her? I had my hen Kitty with Ginger, Kitty was recovering from a hawk attack at the time.

Im not sure about frequency of molasses flush, I gave my hen Big Red straight nutri drench almost every day via dipping her beak into it. I also forced hardened chuncks.of coconut oil and cooked ground meat, tried to get high calorie stuff into them when they're not eating.

They will pick on her if they know something is wrong with her.
I wouldn't worry about pecking order. If she gets through this you can put her back in and remove the one or two bullies. Then they lose their spot. Right now she's not feeling well but has to use energy to keep up appearances and potentially defend herself.

The molasses flush usually works on the first try if you get enough in her. But if it didn't work or wasn't enough then I would focus on getting as much into her within a couple of hours so it's potent enough to do the job. The molasses flush cleans out the gizzard and there should be a decent amount of poop.

Food isn't a priority as whatever she eats will just sit in her crop and ferment.

The only time I had an issue reintegrating was with a hen that had a broken wing. She was out of the group for a couple of weeks, then the wing was rebroken. It was right where it connects to the body and my rooster was standing on it to mate her. She refused to let him on and he wouldn't let her back with the flock. So he got re-homed.
