ERRRRRGGGGGGGG TEENS...they think they know it all...

yeah i pulled the "yeah mom all my home work is done" stunt too...thats why it took me till i was 34 to get my nursing degree ...so now i am 35 years old at the bottom of the seniority pole and no pension or benefits to speak of... thank goodness DH had the benifits

I was grounded from reading once. It was the best punishment my parents ever could have come up with and it worked very well. I HATED it!

If the video games are getting in the way, why don't you get rid of them? I don't have kids (so take all this with a grain of salt

), but I distinctly remember my parents piling on the chores if we decided to blow off school work. Perhaps it's time for junior to take over YOUR chores as well as his own. Clearly he has too much time on his hands. Given the choice, YOU ought to have too much time on your hands rather than him!

Walk him to class every day. Then stay for a bit, make him nervous.

I am a cruel mom and my kids knew I would take everything away if needed. The most i had to take was "electricity" - no tv, vids, music, or games...lights after dark ok. But I was prepared to take everything except a sleeping bag from the room - including the door.

Thankfully the boys did not push me to that point and the daughter is 2 years from graduation - so we will see.

Good luck with yours. BTW - I love that taking the library card away worked ! LOL

I have to confess this was my problem in high school. Well not the girls...lol...but the books. I lived and breathed books. I loved them and I lived through them. My mother took all my books from me and called the library and told them I wasn't allowed there. I was devastated...until I found out there was another library in the city. And I went there.

I'm sure my reason for escaping into books were much different than your son's. Mine was to escape a very abusive childhood. He sounds like he IS trying to escape from something, though. I agree that he should go to summer school and have some of his favorite things curtailed.

Good luck!

I actually got yelled at by a teach when he went to school and said my mom grounded me from books...the teach was so mad and flipped her lid...why would you ever discourage reading..... i told her to ask me that same question when he failed to turn in his science project next time...lol
