I have two adolescent game chicks my friend gave me for eggs. They are afraid of me and escaped while I was cleaning their tractor and are in the thick brush, just out of reach. One looks like he may be a rooster, but doesn't crow yet. I was going to give him back to my friend. I hope I haven't started a feral chicken epidemic in my neighborhood. As game chickens, will they always be skittish?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So sorry your lost your birds! I have heard that Games are not all that tame. You will need to lure them back in somehow. I would keep food and water in the yard near the tractor and hopefully over the next few days you can get them caught. I am so sorry, but I have never had to catch lost chickens before. I sure hope you can catch them!

Thank you, TwoCrows. They come near the edge of the woods to look at me when I talk to them. I'll keep at it. Blessings.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your escaped chickens, games do tend to be rather wild... x2 what TwoCrows said, if they have been sleeping in the tractor, if you leave food and water in it and the tractor open, they may well go back into it tonight.

The little hen got within six feet of me a few minutes ago, but I haven't seen the probable roo since this morning. I'll leave the tractor open again tonight. There's plenty of food in the woods, but no water. Thank you!

tempt them with a trail of treats and water at the coop. If they want it they have to go inside. maybe they will roost near it at night. Chickens do not like to move in the dark. It would be a great chance to get them hopefully before predators notice them.

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. :frow
Maybe once they get to know you they will calm down a bit. Good luck with your Houdini's.

I have a feeling the little roo is a goner. Lots of predators around here. This morning the little hen is less inclined to come out in the open. I wonder if she had a bad night. She's still talking to me, though. Thank you, Sweet Folks, for the encouragement.
