especially friendly chicken breeds

Gotta say, right now Speckled Sussex and Buff Orpington are my two most friendly girls. Orpington is as docile as a lapdog as long as one of the other chickens isn't running around with a worm. It let me wipe mud off of its face without ducking or fussing at all!

BUFF ORPINGTON!!!!!!!!! they are so friendly and curious, the other day I went outside to take a couple pictures of my chickens and my buff orpington walked straight up to the camera and looked at it for about 5 seconds and then jumped onto my lap

In choosing a breed you must also consider the weather where you are living. Orpintons, Cochins and Brahams are heavy birds even in their bantam variety. They are closly feathered and do not tolerate the heat well. If you coop is airconditioned you are safe

Hatchery birds are less friendly than private breeders but so far I have found that the dual purpose sex link breeds are docile and all are usually found easily in hatcheries of all sizes. One of my favorite flocks were red sex links. They are calm tolerant and good producers and medium size.

Again ask yourself what other requirements do you have. Are you looking for kid friendly ? Is you main focus eggs or pets ? Would you like you birds to go broody and raise their chicks. Remember the weather, very important issue, many folks are loosing their birds due to the heat ! Pretty and friendly should not be the only criteria in your choice. Plus cost is a factor ie original price and feed to production ratio. I advise starting easy and simple.

As far as your question, some folks will find that lavender or buff are friendly and then another person will say the opposite.

This is our experience with our first flock

My EE is the friendliest, tamest... Sitting on our laps getting pet ect
BR is a close second, very friendly, first to come running to great me, loves to be pet, and willing to be held, but for shorter ammounts of time than the EE
The RSL is skittish, and is just now allowing me to touch it again
The RIR is skittish, flighty and dumb as a box of rocks

None are mean

All of them were handled from the time we got them as little baby chicks....

Shaver Browns. Love them. Had one I got in Feb at point of lay, she was so friendly I was gutted when she just died a month or so back. Just got another last week, she is so friendly already and they are great layers too
