Come on over to Southern Oregon and stay awhile...your mind will change. It is no different the addiction one gets for anything. Addictions come in different forms and degrees. however, it does impair the person smoking it, the degree of that depends on the individual and how much is smoked and etc etc.

I smoked the stuff back in my teen years...I found it did several things. One, it does impair your judgment and reflexes. Two it made me as hungry as a bear and three...it made me so tired I could not hold my eyes open yet when I closed them everything spun at Mach II. So, I do not need to tell you that for me it was not addicting and was quite flushable. Some folks are just not that fortunate...then again, i do not have an addictive type personality really. I am a control freak and must be in control of me and what happens to me at all times. So anything that messes with my ability to be in control...has to go.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I would think they are relatively the same. There would be no criminal charges applied in some degree or across the board. Interesting question.

I don't know where the 42% comes from, but that seems really low. I would say 80% of the people I know smoke pot, and the other 20 percent would if it weren't for these unconstitutional employment drug tests.

Decriminalizing means it's a minor offense under a certain threshold. In the state of Colorado it is a misdemeanor to posses under 1 ounce. It is treated like a traffic ticket and charged a fine. of course it is on your record and could effect employment and eligibility for federally funded student loans and all that neat stuff. Of course if you had an ounce rolled into joints ready to smoke and were in a school zone the penalty would probably be higher.

In Denver it is legal to posses under an ounce. Of course if a state cop nabs you it goes by state rules. If the feds get you it depends on social status.

When I was in my 20's everybody I knew smoked it. Then they started the pee testing and it dropped a lot because we all had jobs in industries that tested. I lived in silicone valley. I worked for GE Nuclear Energy. We built control rooms for nuclear reactors. I inspected and tested systems. Yes I was stoned from morning till bedtime. So far no meltdowns on anything I worked on. No I haven't smoked for some time now. Yes I think it's stupid that it's illegal and alcohol is legal.

This same topic was discussed on Sufficient self with much different results. Interesting yes?

It is now tomorrow. I wonder how the debate for the OP went.

I see the debate here continues even though the OP probably doesn't need it anymore.

Here's my two cents....

About 50% of the people I know smoke marijuana. My dad smokes it, the majority of my friends smoke it, my older coworkers smoke it, heck even I admit that I occasionally partake (once a month or so).

I have back pain and a real problem falling asleep at night. I can definitely say that marijuana helps both of those conditions whenever I do use it. Makes me content, amused, and calm. Compared to all the bad drugs that are currently out there and are corrupting the lives of my friends, marijuana seems so safe. And my friends who smoke weed daily have been able to completely stop when they need to for as long as necessary with no negative side effects.

The amount of tax revenue that could be brought in from marijuana is ridiculous! And that money could be put towards programs for those who are addicted to much worst substances.

Sure, you shouldn't drive or make any life changing decisions when your stoned. But that's the same with alcohol, and that's illegal. Much more death is caused from alcohol than marijuana every year. How many people do you think get STONED before smacking around their wife? And now what about with alcohol?

i KNOW a guy, that broke 6 vertebrates in his neck, shattered 2 of them, ripped half his scalp off, and couldnt move 1 of his arms because of the neck thingy. the day after the accident, he left the hospital, 2 weeks later went back to work,, finally quit after 4 months. the ONLY medicine he took from the second day on,, was pot...
how can ya argue against that?

I think it should be treated like anytihng else people smoke- it should be legal with a certain age and people that don't like it should choose to leave it alone and avoid users, and people who like it should be able to use it. Personally, I doubt it will be legalized simply because people make money off of it. drug dealers make a lot because it's illegal, it would be cheaper if they could just grow it in open fields. Lawyers and such make profit off of those in trouble for it. And states make it off of fines and charges.
