I agree with the other ladies, black is stunning. I love black in a quilt but I find it hard to sew, so hard to see. It will be a beautiful quilt. What size are you planning?

Do you sew your blocks by hand or with a sewing machine? This looks like something I might be able to do. Im loving that pattern.

I'm thinking a lap quilt size for this. I just finished two queen bed quilts and am wanting more instant gratification.


I used to only hand piece, but had all but quit due to carpal tunnel. When the staff gifted me with a marvelous new machine, I learned to use it and now, I machine piece and save my fingers for the quilting part.

I was really wary at first about ordering fabrics on-line because I wondered if the colors would appear "correct". It helps if I know the manufacturer and to have seen the fabric in my favorite quilt shops. I can then go online and order with more confidence....always at a much lower price.

I've ordered from several online companies but always go back to Thousands of Bolts. I particularly like Moda, Marcus, Northcott, Kona/Seattle, Benartex, Andover, Red Rooster, RJP, Kaufman, South Seas Imports, and P & B Textiles.

Oh, that is so sweet of you, but you don't have to do that. Thank you. Glad you understand what I mean about handling the fabric. Even then, just because I found a perfect color, I will on occasion buy it and forget to pay enough attention to the weight of it, just being so happy I found the right color. We are so limited here in my area.

I started on my Jewel Box quilt today! Yesterday, I bought some fabric at the quilt shop at a local flea market, of all places. They have really nice fabric and the most expensive is about $5/yd, much cheaper than the regular quilt shop in town.​

Sure I will! I am just doing the tedious cutting out of the pieces and starting to sew some together. This one uses so many different colors and shades, it was really hard choosing the exact shades I would be using. I was about to give up, but I decided that even if they weren't perfect, it would look great anyway. Quilts are like that, very forgiving!

Okay, you got it.

First I cut strips from the fabrics to begin making 4-patch squares.

Then I cut 2.5" sections from those and pair them with another section to make a square.

Still need the purples cut out. The instructions called for blue shades, but I wasn't at all satisfied with the blues I had for this project and changed it to purples.
