Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Are these my eggs? I'm dying to know if the chicks from my Mille Fleur hen grow too large and can't get out of the shell! When is hatch day?
If they are not my eggs, please ignore my odd curiosity.

Sorry, not yet. I had a pair of large cockerels and one of this years when you came to visit. I am sending the lighter more SOP pair up to a friend. I am hatching out basques... if they ever hatch. Not yet. I can't even remember the date. Sorry... so many things going

Talk about luck. Out of 6 basque chicks, I got 1 too and 5 pullets! Now I need to find someone to trade roos with me. Not sure if its considered good to breed brother to his sisters.

Wow, that is lucky! I hatched 8, and I swear they all look like boys to me. I haven't had a chance to really study them, though, and they are only 3 1/2 weeks.
I do hope I get a few boys to choose from. My head roo has a serious case of gout, so he will be going to the freezer this fall, if he lasts that long.

Buckabucka, I had a nice young roo that developed permanent lameness in one leg, is that what you are seeing? Is there a way to tell it is gout short of an autopsy? It was very disappointing, he was my favorite bird and very nice.

It started out with a little lameness/limping. Now all the toes on both feet and the pads are very swollen. I don't think it is bumble foot, because there are no scabs. He is still getting around, but you can tell it is painful.

Both of ours seemed to be cockerels, one was real bad both hip and leg joint issues in one leg, the other just has an issue in in the leg
joint on one leg we splinted the joint for 5 days and so far that bird seems to be doing ok.
We'll try for some greenfire farm stock for our next go around with this breed
