Delawares are genetically silver, and can be used in red sex-link crosses - Gold male over Delaware female produces males with the Delaware pattern and females that are red. I have heard that the down difference is subtle, though.

That works because there is one barring gene--Marraduna also have a barring gene so not a sex link cross. Would you get a sex link if you crossed with a New Hampshire and a Marraduna?

For red sex-links, you use a Gold (eg RIR, NH) rooster over a Silver hen (eg White Rock, Delaware, SL Wyandotte) , barring is not important - Cream Legbars are also barred. The male has two sex-linked recessive gold alleles(s+/s+), while the hen has one dominant silver allele (S). All male offspring will be S/s+, therefore silver, while the hens will be s+ only, and therefore gold. If EO's are s+/s+, they can be used for this kind of sex-links.

Black sex-links use a non-barred rooster over a barred hen, such as RIR or NH over a Barred Rock hen. The female must carry the sex-linked barring gene, and the male must not carry it. Any non-barred non-white male will work in this cross.
