Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Thanks NP and MD....she looks like she is really protecting them. Generally speaking are they overly protective with the babies? I have had some that don't care and others that think they should kill you for checking on them.......hopefully...they are middle of the road. BTW....how did you keep that nest so nice and clean....and look at those bright yellow legs!!!!!!

She makes noise when i go near her, but she has never been aggressive to me. I put my hand under her and grab the babies, she didn't mind at all. I mean she fluffs up and makes little noises under her breath, but no problems.

She kept the nest really clean. I just picked out the empty shells. She is being a great mom.

here are some of the babies.

Welsummer/EO I have 3 that look almost exactly the same. Hoping they aren't all boys.

Welsummer maybe a EO mix. I'm guessing this a girl based on her dark stripes.

EO pure bred. I think the other EO has white legs.

Orpington/EO mix. Being the mother was Blue Orpington and father was EO, I'm not sure, but I think the white dot could still be a girl in this case. (not sex linked)

Great pics. I don't know if it is even genitically possible, but it would be kinda cool if somebody could get the auto-sexing thing in EO's...then all the little girls would have stripes. CONGRATULATIONS.......Send the cigars

Those babies are adorable! I hope I get to see one of mine go broody!

My Basque chicks came down with cocci on Friday. Only one showed symptoms (very poofy.) I put Corid in their water and everyone is fine now! Thanks to everyone's advice, I had it on hand!

I went to the ranch today to see my big chickens and guess what I found?? Our first egg!! I don't know if it was laid by our Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks or our Basques but dang it's adorable!

Congratulations! That does look like a basque egg!

The Partridge Rock and Barred Plymouth Rock eggs I get are more rounded usually and a bit lighter in color.
