Hey awesome thanks for helping me! Hopefully nifty can fix whatever is going on???

I hope to plant a nice size garden this year-half for the family half for the chickens! lot of zuchinni-tomatoes-beans-peas for my duck-and basil lots and lots of basil. Now chickens cant be around the garden thats just started right? I mena theyll eat all the sprouts right? I hear of alot of people letting chickens in their gardens???

I had always grown peppermint in containers I figured I am going to set it free. It just took off. Beautiful aromatic tons of peppermint. Chickens finished it off. Planted some red bell peppers chickens have also done away with that. They have also started on my cilantro, rosemary and oregano. I figured well if they don't lay at least they will be half seasoned.. hehehe. Oh yeah chickens will eat off sprouts have to allow the plants to grow first before you set the chickens loose.

rir It got cold here while my plants were still loaded with green tomatoes. I layered them with newspaper in cardboard boxes and just set them in my hallway(tiny trailer, no place else to put them). It worked great. Just check every couple days for ripe ones.

I'll try that out with the big ones. I am afraid if they just sit there on the plant the bugs will get to them before I do. I'll go cut them right now and wrap them in newspaper. I'll let you know how it works. Was your H able to make it home before the storm?

the rain we are getting is just an annoyance now. No significant amount of rain just sprinkling and mist. I am still waiting for a downpour.

Thanks for asking. He sure did. I am glad because it is supposed to continue to get worse. For the tomatoes I just laid a layer of NP down and put the maters in not touching but close toeach other. Then another layer of NP, more maters.

Well we are going to watch a Christmas special on TV. Nite!

Good Sunday morning everyone

How is everyone this weekend? Are you surviving the weather? Raining now here and the dogs are muddy coming in, uhhh.

Garden talk is great right now, these long nights are driving me batty. I am planning for a fair sized one this coming year and had not thought about the chickens getting into it. They do free range some during the day. How do you deal with them getting into things, do you fence your whole garden area?

I am reading so many aweful things about the food from the stores any more, I feel like the more we can raise ourselves, the better.

The boys spent the night at my brother's, it is quiet here!

this is the day...

greetings and salutations..

That is exactly why I started my garden. The way to keep the chickens off would be to put 4 stakes down and then put some wire on it. My garden bed is elevated so they would not be able to fly up on it if it had wire. But keep that in mind some chickens can jump/fly high.

@chickenchick

I cut my large green tomatoes early this morning and put them in those layers of newspaper.

@forum
We got a good downpour of rain last night and it is still raining softly this morning. 57 degrees and it is fresh and clean outside a bit muddy. My girls love it though. The rain is bringing up grass and they are eating grass to their hearts content.

rir let me know how your tomatoes do.

My in-laws came out and brought pizza last night. It was really nice of them! They are headed to New Mexico on Friday then on to Yuma until February. We had a nice visit.

Well you all have a happy Monday!

Good Morning! It took me a while to get caught up this morning! It is foggy with drizzle today. Temp in the upper 30s are supposed to fall all day and end up around 4 by morning! It was a really pleasant weekend with lots of meltage (is that a word?) so really really muddy around here.

I got some shopping done Saturday. Kinda accidentally. My dad had cataract surgery Friday and he and mom came back over for an appointment Saturday morning. Destiny and I happened to see them in town and we decided to make a Wal-Mart trip. She wanted to buy Colton an Ipod for Christmas and had no idea what she is doing, so Destiny helped her. We picked out all our presents from her already, so we picked out Jimmie's and Colton's.

Destiny is going to load some music on it before it gets wrapped.

Got company. I will post more later.

Okay, I am back! chickenchick & NY, how much snow did you end up with?

We spent the day yesterday making candy. You know the fancy stuff like dipping pretzels in almond bark?

While doing that we watch a Christmas trilogy on LMN. The Christmas Shoes, Christmas Blessing and Christmas Hope. We were caught crying in our chocolate more than once!

I think I am getting Christmas movie overload, that is all we have done for about 4 days now. They are usually so sappy, but I just can't help myself!
