ROFL We must have a genetic link. Might be back a few dozen generations but it's gotta be there.
I'm about to head back to my basement after a short rest. I couldn't work on my circuit breaker tonight. My son is asleep (had a fever this morning) and I need him to hold the light for me to do that task. I'll do it tomorrow.
So, I started dealing with the hellish job of tracing wires and eliminating crap that is down there that is unnecessary. This house has the most jacked up wiring in the basement that you can imagine.
I made it a CONDITION of purchase that they remove all the 220 outlets and lines from the basement. If I'd known how jacked up the rest of the wiring was, I'd have requested more. Might not have gotten it and would have bought anyway, ROFL.
We actually had an electrical fire in a light this summer as a result of this mess. There are either FIFTEEN OR EIGHTEEN industrial sized eight foot long fluorescent lights in my basement. Except for ONE light, these are all the kind that don't plug in. They are wired directly into my electrical wiring. One of these is what caught fire.
These lights are over FIFTY years old. And, it looks like they all have the original ballasts. (One of those is what started the fire in a light.) Plus, the former owner liked to "play" with gadgets. There are really strange gadgets, like industrial alarm bells, wired in, extra door bells, etc. He also apparently liked to make his own junction boxes from strange things - like old ceramic light sockets (the kind that also had the outlet on the light socket).
So, I'm in the midst of tracing the one that was a problem this summer and removing everything unnecessary. Just ONE of his homemade junction boxes had SEVEN sets of wires in and out. When I put it back together, it will have a much more sane TWO (basically, it'll be a splice now.) Much more to do, though...
