Ever had a winter broody?

well strike what I said before about my broody leghorn sitting on fake eggs I went up this morning to feed and collect eggs and lol all I hear are little tiny peeps lmao yep she hatched out 3 banty crosses if I would of known that iw ould have put regular chicken eggs under her!!!!

LOL..congratulations to her and you.
Curious...white leghorn or brown? did you get her from a breeder or feedstore...pure or mixed....AMAZING that a Leghorn would sit if it is commercial stock. You would be lucky indeed.

actually she isent my first I have 3 white leghorns and the first one was broody in the spring and she raised 13 light brahma chicks without loosing a single one!! and then a younger one went broody a month ago and BAM lol I guess im just LUCKY!!! my oldest I bought from a auction they were a group of laying hens from an egg factory acouple sexlinks and a leghorn and they have NEVER seen the light of day so I snatched them and resuced them! and the younger ones were from tractor supply chicks they are pure bred white leghorns! and I was sooo shocked that the one went broody let alon 2!

My broody hen hatched 2 of her 6 eggs on December 29th. They are happy and healthy and following mom around their little coop. Two of the other eggs were clear, one quit around day 15ish and the last one made it do lockdown but failed to hatch. I put a heat lamp in their coop in case the little ones fell from the nest and weren't able to get back up to mom using the ramp. My broody hen is only 7 months old and is a mix of leghorn/ameraucana/australorp.

One of the Silkies hatched two yesterday, still has a couple eggs in the nest, but they're probably too far behind the others for her to finish. But the other Silkie is still sitting on her unhatched eggs, so I might switch the eggs with a couple of hers that are closer to hatching. Eggs are mixes from my Cochin cockerel and Delaware, Belgian d'Uccle, and Silkie pullets, all under a year old. The chicks in the pic are Delaware mix and Silkie mix.

day twelve of winter broody setting, candled eggs, and im so proud of her she is a first time mom, and is a silkie. We luv you hun.

I have a BOrp that has gone broody twice. Both times conditions weren't right so I removed her and took eggs

but I started calling her BigMama (even though she isn't yet) and the name stuck! I can't wait until Spring, she stopped laying a couple of weeks ago.

Post pics!!! Love Silkies but they aren't right for us.
