Ever see a rumpless barred rock?

I hatched out several barred rock babies from my own barred rock stock back in April.

All look like textbook examples of the breed... except one!

He has absolutely no tail.
He has beautiful long thin saddle feathers all the way around his rear.

His coloring is typical barred rock except for 3 red feathers scattered in various places.

Its possible, mutations can pop up anywhere. That is how the rumpless birds first came about, a mutation. I say keep him and breed him to a sister to see if you get more.

Also if you sell him he would be a good start for barred araucanas.

Well, isn't he interesting! I never have a BR cockerel without some sort of tail; even my Dutch, who really doesn't have much of one, does have one. Hmm. Those genes sure do funny things sometimes, LOL.

I've hatched 9 BR cockerals from my stock, and he is the only one like this.

I've never seen a rumpless BR, he's really cool. I've seen a rumpless silkie, it was a big round ball of fuzz LOL
