Everyone OK? Boston Marathon.

One suspect down, one to go. Hopefully they can get #2 without any further loss of life. Scary search at the moment though.

I'm impressed with how Boston and the cities around are handling this. Shutting the cities down for the day and telling everyone to stay inside and lock your doors. Police presence is massive and they have a perimeter set up. I hope this ends today.

I'm shocked - but glad - that they got the guy alive. We need to know what motivated the attack, and whether others are planned. It also goes a long way towards discrediting the conspiracy theories.

However, all is not sunshine and roses in my view. Leaving aside those still recovering and whose lives have been permanently changed, as well as the threat of more bombings, Boston's police-state experience made me realize some terrifying facts.

First: Give the people something to be scared about, and they will accept anything if it makes them feel "safe." Ben Franklin warned us about this.

Second: Martial law can not only be blatantly set in place, it will also be embraced by those who live under it if the proper excuse is present.

Third: Under said martial law, the police can and will completely ignore anything resembling civil liberties and WILL search you, your belongings, and your home without a warrant or probable cause.

Fourth: We're already set up for this to happen across the U.S. Concerns are already arising that this bombing may be the first in a wave of attacks. I don't believe the government is behind it, but they will gleefully take advantage of it.

You asked for it, America. Get ready for the new reality of the overt police state. They will grind you into the dirt, and you will love them for it.

How come the frickin coward didn't blow himself up? I hope he lives to be outsourced to the place where they get information out of them

Maybe I just have too much empathy, but in such a case with such a young (and likely easily influenced) suspect, it's actually quite upsetting. No one deserves to die. It's good that he didn't either way, then we'll know why the attack happened straight from one of the people who did it. And someday, considering his age, he'll likely regret what he did.

I'm just glad everything seems to be wrapping up. Although, you never know what could happen next.

I really think his brother was the mastermind behind all of this. This kid seemed to be completely normal, received a scholarship for high grades and leadership in high school, captain of the wrestling team, etc. I believe somewhere along the line the brother influenced him into doing this. The photographs taken on race day show him following his brother most of the time, which (IMO) shows that he was letting his brother take over the leadership role and he was just following along. Only in the past year or so had his twitter account turned weird, which coincides with his brother coming back from Russia. This kid knew what he was doing though, so I hope he does get a harsh punishment.
