EWW !! are these eggs !!!! ( MITES )

How old are your chicks? Can they dust bathe? That would certainly help with the mites!

Hey, you might want to try putting DE (diatomaceous earth) powder where they dust bathe, and also around the coops and runs. Theres a lot of info on this site about DE, good luck!

No, to the best of my knowledge, places like Home Depot would only carry the horticultural diatomaceous earth, which is not the safest thing to use with your birds. You need "food grade" DE. Sometimes your feed supplier will have it. If not, you may have to search for it online.

But....my advice is to deal with one thing at a time. Once you have bugs, the DE will do little good. It's best as a preventative. So, treat your birds and surroundings with the Sevin or something similar to eliminate the infestations. When your birds are no longer infected, then you can concentrate on finding the DE to help prevent any future problems. It's easy to become overwhelmed when facing a problem like this. You'll have less stress if you stay focused on just eliminating the bugs you have now and worry about future bugs later.

BTW, you may be able to find the Sevin dust at Home depot. Don't let the warning labels or the "OMG! Don't use chemicals!" crowd scare you. I've used Sevin on my birds and even on my vegetable garden for many years with no ill effects to my birds, me or my family. It's cheap, it works, and works quickly.

K, i'll try to get the sevin dust either today or tommarow

quick question(s)

1. Will it kill the eggs, adults, larva

2. do I dust them, and how or do i leave it out and they will dust themselves

3. If I dust them, how many times

4. should I sanitize the cage (with lysol, chicks removed )

5. why am I only find the eggs in the neck area and around the ears

6. how long will it take for the dust to work

7. how much sevin dust do i buy ( 11 chicks in infected area, 2 adults in big chicken coop with 4 chicks mama hatched out)
I examined the chickens in the coop and havent seen any eggs or mites , and in the cage with the chicks, only the fancy breed chicks seem to be infected
