I cracked open an elongated egg this morning and found this weird ball, blood and a perfect yolk-any ideas what this could be?

. Sometimes you get a funky egg. Those put me off eating eggs for a good long time. Blood is generally from a ruptured blood vessel. The weird ball I don't know without pictures, but it doesn't sound appetizing.

Sounds like a piece of the reproductive tract. I’m sure there was a thread not too long ago in which someone had a fleshy ball in their egg.

Did this gross weirdness come from a new layer? Sometimes when they first start laying eggs they can give you all sorts of bizarre eggs until they get the glitches all worked out. It's always a good idea to crack your eggs in a separate bowl just for that reason... cuz yeah eww

It is possible that your hens reproductive system hasn't started to work properly and what you saw was in fact two embryos, one partially formed but hadn't moved to the uterus and the other (the proper yolk) the next egg in the chain.
