Unfortunately, the rotten egg decided to blow on me as I was passing through my bedroom (I was heading to get my flashlight). It went all over the carpet and my bedspread

So, isnt it wierd for a fresh egg to pop that soon??? I just bought them from a BYCer and they were only in the bator for 3 days!!

:sickBlegh, Ew, I'm sorry about your experience. I don't think I've encountered anything grosser in the whole wide world than a rotten egg exploding in one's face. It does seem weird that it blew up on day three.... Was the egg dirty? Did it look like it had been washed or did it have any stains? Maybe the BYCer accidentally gave you a really old egg.

the egg was clean, im really hoping that it was a coincidence, or just plain bad luck instead of a fellow BYCer selling me old eggs....but to be honest, Im kinda doubtful that there is a good explanation for it exploding on me so early.
Ugh. Now I have to take the bedspread, all my clothes and the towell I cleaned up with to the laundromat and hope the smell comes out- and borrow my friends carpet cleaner and

that I get the stench out of the carpet. I told Dh our room is uninhabitable for tonight, and I know who's going to be sleeping in the dog house

Three days is real early to have a rotten egg, let alone have it explode!

Try cleaning the affected areas with a baking soda paste or white vinegar. Those will be your best bets on getting rid of the smell. I feel for you right now, I know how bad that smell is and how hard it is to get rid of it!

Hoping all comes clean for you!

I finally got up the nerve to candle the rest of the eggs, and every single one is growing!

So that tells me that the rotten egg was a single incident. I also contacted the seller and she was a total professional, offering replacement eggs even though she was adamant that the eggs were fresh. It sounds like it was a case of bad luck.
As for the smell, I steam cleaned the carpet but it still stinks slightly. Going to take up PPs advice and try baking soda paste and or vinegar
