Five out of the six eggs have hatched. Still holding out hope for the silent and crackless egg. So far both Phoenix eggs hatched, a white rock egg hatched and two Phoenix/red production cross eggs hatched. The first Phoenix chick looks normal but the second is black with a white spot around its head and it has yellow around its chin. We have no roosters that could produce a chick like this. And we are pretty sure both Phoenix eggs were purebred. Any idea? It is the only one with almost all grey legs.

if no barred birds on your place, than someone is not pure and the chick is a throw back to whatever is in the woodpile. Had it happen with a rooster looking pure, but his babies didn't look pure.
