Exciting New Brinsea App Controlled Incubator - Testers Journey!

I want to keep those two so badly but I'm the one that laid down the law, no new chicks past June 1.

It's just two though, so they could live in the house brooder over winter at least until January. If we go anywhere, we'll just take 'em with us. ☺️
LAWS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN WHEN IT COMES TO CHICKENS OKAY?! 🤣❤️😅

I've raised chicks as late as October here. They do okay. I haven't found silkies to be any less hardy that other breeds personally. I vote to keep them. Maybe we will have another mild winter like last year.

It's the age though. The soonest we've been able to integrate is 4 months old, and issue-free at 5 months old. The main coop is the only one insulated, heated to 40F. We should have the new coop finished before winter hits so that's another option for them if they can't integrate yet.

I say "keep no new chicks past June 1" as then they'll be 5 months old by Nov. 1. That's the easy way. Realistically, here we go again! :gig

I'd probably slip them under a broody here. I have a few Bantam cochins that will take anything and raise it. That is if you feel like driving them over this way? Just kidding, of course.

We also weren't going to incubate anymore this year, so... keep them! And, if you're keeping them, you might as well keep a couple Salmon Faverolle pullets...

I have two in the coop broody. I bet I could get one of those old ladies to take 'em. I never even thought of that!

But, they seem to abandon ship at about a month to six weeks old and then we're having to find a place for them. I've got hubby thinking about it as he remembers how this plays out. ☺️

There are still a few eggs in the Brinsea Connect, but I only see one pipped out of those. I left 10 chicks in the incubator to dry and rest.

Here are the 19 I just pulled out. The first one had hatched on Monday, so he was probably getting a little hungry. Those big yellow ones are the salmon faverolles and sure are spunky little buggers. I'm not used to this with just silkies but it's sure fun!

Thank you! I never, ever, ever imagined I'd be considering keeping any of them, but here we are.

I'm trying to keep it down to a manageable number, like all 30-something of them. :gig

Seriously, just the two paints, I think, but we're not done drooling yet!

Two, thirty, there's only a few letters different, so eh...

Plus isn't there a rule that if you drool on them you have to keep them?
