I am new to chickens and presently have 3 pullets (2 Speckled Sussex and 1 Brahma). I am interested in exhibiting. Mine are standard hatchery birds, and I realize are probably not ideal for showing. How does one go
1) Evaluating them, for ***** and giggles
2) Find a young show prospect

A good way to start is to look at pictures of birds online and compare them to yours. Provided you live in the USA, getting a copy of the APA Standard of Perfection is a fantastic resource. http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/store.htm

Taking one of your birds to a show, provide the bird doesn't have any DQ's, and entering the show can teach you a lot. You'll be able to see lots of other birds, talk to other breeders, and judges.

Also, if you have a family member or know someone in the community that breeds and shows birds, be a good idea to pick their brain.
