Experience wirth Automatic door from Foys

The timer plugs into 110ac outlet,it has two outlets in the bottom to plug-in you're transformer for your door. The battery is in case the power goes out it will hold your settings until the power comes back so you don't have to reset for timer evert time the power goes out. If you'd like tomorrow I will try to take a picture of my setup.

We understand what you are saying. The Foys is totally battery operated. I don't have electric in my coop. It's a half acre from the house to the coop and now way to run it out there that I can afford. Foy's is the best option for someone who doesn't have power unless something comes out that is solar that is afforable.

Just to add, the Foy's can be either light operated (doesn't work for me as there is a lot of shade) or timer operated. It's all controlled by 2 little wires and batteries.

I installed one in the fall of 2007 and it has been operating with no input from AC or from me (except that I change the opening/closing times on the equinoxes).

I LOVE this device. It is reliable, it takes the worry out of wondering if my chickens are getting too cold, or if a predator has somehow found his way into the chunnel and then the coop.

It did take several readings of the instructions, and I had one mis-step during installation. But all of that (even the cost) is NOTHING compared to the convenience and peace of mind this thing has added to my life.

Did I mention I LOVE it???!!!

LOL suburban! I know exactly what you mean. My husband actually broke mine on the day we installed it!! Tried to break off the extra long screws he used to install it with a hammer. All the guts fell out!!!! Poison Ivy went and took pictures of hers so I could put it back together again.

I just wanted to chime in that I have had the door opener for over a year now. Mine runs off the sensor, not a timer. We LOVE this thing. There are days when we unexpectedly get home late, but the chickens are safely locked inside.

I really need to get one. I have electricity in my coop. Does anyone know does the one from Foy's ONLY run on batteries, or can it run on electricity? or a combination of batteries/electricity.

Can anyone recommend for me which one is the best to get? The space requires a guillotine type door.

All advice appreciated.

thanks!

Finally got my installed yesteday. I hadn't gotten the timer set but it was the factory setting and when I went out this AM they were all ready out it was nice just need to get the timer set for closing and make sure I have it right for the time change. It will be so nice not to have to worry about some predator wandering by when the sun goes down earlier and I am not home yet.

I don't think there is one for A/C, just battery. Mine has been up for over a year on the same battery.

You will simply love it!!

Thanks Coyote!! That's great to hear it has run so long on the battery.

What kind of battery is it? Do you recharge the unit, or is it like an ordinary battery.
