Experience with saddled shaped air cells

Thankfully everything went great! The chicks hatched out just fine and broody hen accepted them straight away. I gave her the chicks in the evening so they were under her all night. In the morning she was clucking away teaching them how to eat and drink. How did your hatch go? View attachment 2586789
Sadly the opposite. Only one hatched the other did not even internally pip and I introduced it to the broody she seemed very happy and proud if it to begin with but I then had to go to work and sadly she killed it. I was so upset and so angry with myself for trusting her . I am hatching six more . I think in retrospect it was because she had never hatched before. 😢 Over four years this was the worst experience so far. Last year six hatched out fine. Detached aircells are a nightmare

That’s unlucky but I’m sure you’ll have better luck next time. It was also my chickens first time being broody but luckily she turned out to be a good mother hen. Did you introduce the chick during the day because from what I’ve been reading it’s best to introduce them at night when the hen can’t see the chicks.

I read in one link that it was better to introduce the chick during the day then another link at night 🤔

Did you separate the broody a few days before the chicks arrived? How old were they when you introduced them?
The chicks were 2 days old when I introduced them. I left the broody in the nesting box and moved her in the morning after I had given her the chicks.

Hi, I'm currently trying to hatch posted silkie eggs. I noticed the saddle shaped air cells were quite bad when I candle them day 11, they had been laying flat in incubator so have now put them in cut out egg cartons. Is this the right thing to do? I need lots of advice if possible please 🙈 I'm so nervous. I was going to lay them flat again when lockdown comes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks 👍🏻🙂

I personally put the pointy egg down right from the start in individual egg box pieces to keep the eggs upright. Also I pencilled where the aircell was . In lockdown I lay them flat . It seemed to work miraculously

Thank you 😊 So its okay to leave them in the egg cups till it comes to lockdown on day 18, then lay them flat? And it's okay to still slightly turn them every few hours? Was told by someone else not to go near them anymore 🙈
