Hi, I’m currently on day 14 of incubating 11 shipped Orpington eggs, I candled today and all of the developing embryos seem to be thriving although some of them do have saddled shaped air cells. What are your experiences with saddled shaped air cells? Can they hatch successfully? Should anything be done differently? What humidity do you suggest? The air cells seem to be on track but in some eggs the air cell dips down more on one side than the other is that normal? My incubator holds the eggs upright, when I candled the embryo only filled the bottom portion of the egg is this normal?
Thanks in advance 😀

My first ever hatch was a peahen called Blue

I don’t have the answer for you but give you a bump to the top Since you wait almost a week already.
How is the progress of your eggs?
Hi, the 11 eggs are currently at the end of day 19. I hear some faint cheeping. The saddled air cells seem to have improved over the incubation period and don’t look as bad now. Thanks

I just went into lockdown yesterday with some shipped Orpington eggs which have some very funky air cells. I tried to lay them so that the largest part of the air cell was facing up, it wasn’t easy deciding where that was because of the saddled air cells. I find that they do typically pip where the air cell is drawn down most. Before I read about this I placed them without care as to where the largest part of the air cell was and they hatched fine too. Good luck 🤞!
Cool, thank you for the advice, I will try and face the largest part up 👍🏻 best of luck with yours 😊

So I have my five eggs in lockdown. I have a Brinsea eco mini incubator, I've put the safety cover over the water but I find it hard to see the water height, is it okay to open the lid to top up the water? Thank you
Yes as long as no eggs have externally pipped opening the incubator to quickly top up the water should not be a problem

Just the end of day 21. I can hear chirping on and off all day from the incubator but can't see no sign of any of them pipping through, should I be worried? Thanks
No it’s too early to worry! If they’re peeping they’ve pipped internally and are probably resting as hatching is very tiring. I’ve read that it can take 24 hours and in some cases even longer for them to go from internal pip to external pip. Be patient and look forward to welcoming your new babies. My chicks hatched yesterday out of 20 shipped eggs 13 of them hatched 🐣. Unlike yours I didn’t hear any peeping until they were out of the eggs. Remember be patient and good luck 🤞

Thank you so much. I will try and be patient 😄 just keep watching them haha. Awh thats great, you'll be kept busy now with 13 of them 😊
I know what it’s like I stand there staring through the incubator looking out for them wobbling . I’ve got a broody hen outside who will hopefully be taking care of them so saves me stressing over brooder temperatures and so.
