Experiences with McMurray hatchery?

Murray McMurray is a great company. VERY customer oriented, with friendly, knowledgeable people. I would order from them again in a heartbeat!

I was another who gave them a bad review. I ordered 50 and got 52, a few were DOA smooshed in the bottom of the shoe box sized shipping box. after that we lost a total of 27 chicks over the course of 2 weeks. I was happy with the birds that made it thru tho and mcmurrays made good on our losses with no problems but it was sooo darn traumatic to loose one after another when you were doing everything right. Because of that and the fact that they were shipping out sick birds because of an illness running thru their hatchery I will not be ordering from them again. I only hatch shipped eggs and eggs from my birds now or get started birds from breeders.

I love MM. They've sent me chicks in February that arrived during a snowstorm and chicks in May when it really was pretty warm for chick mailing. Always good, healthy, pretty birds. I too finally have the stock that I need to just incubate replacements and chicks needed for customer orders so I don't really need to order from MM anymore but I still drool over their selection and if we decide to raise meat birds again this year I wouldn't hesitate to get them from MM.....along with maybe a few more Black Aussies....and some TURKENS!!!!

Havnt called MM yet want to se if I can get her to drink and eat more. The others look really good. For the rare exotic chick they said its an Black Australorp. I orderd 5 of those so I was hoping to get some thing different. There is one chick thats really different from the others Maybe thats the rare one and they just wright something else on the box? so far the adventure was really nice. I would say at this point I would order again from McMurray Hatchery.

Our hens are all from MM, granted we didnt do the ordering or chick raising (A local college professor ordered 50 and only wanted to keep 20 so she sold the others at 9 wks old) We adore ours and if I had a brooder and time I would order chicks. My uncle whom is as old school as he can be ONLY orders from MM, he has never had anything bad to say about them!

We got a call Saturday morning from the main post office in the largest town near us saying that our peeps had arrived from MM. My hubby ordered them online around Christmas time for a Feb 1 ship date, so we didn't expect to see the peeps till today! We were very surprised to get the phone call on Saturday!

One of my silkies was DOA, but so far, everyone else looks very bright and chipper. We ordered 4 blue silkies, 6 EEs, 5 light brahmas, 5 black jersey giants, and 5 black australorps and 15 cornish x. According to the label on the inside of the lid, they sent 1 str run free rare exotic chick, 4 str run blue silkie bantams, 15 str run jumbo cornish x rock, 1 str run jumbo cornish x rock - free extra, 6 female Araucana, 5 female black australorp, 1 female black australorp - free extra, 5 female black giants, 5 female light brahmas. All but 1 made it just fine. One of the EEs looks a little funny on her back...like the skin/feathers might not be quite right (I'll have to get a pic to show y'all and see what you think), but other than the 1 silkie not making it, everyone was fine. I am going to call MM today to let them know about the silkie, so we'll just have to see what happens in the coming days.

So far, we've been real happy with MM though!

I had very good luck with McMurray last year. I have another order coming from McMurray next week (36 more chicks...).
I placed my order with a delivery date of March 8-10th, but after looking at all of the chick pics I couldn't wait longer and called them to change it. They are very easy to work with on the phone ...

We haven't ordered from MM for years and that was only because my DD was showing birds at the time and she didn't like the quality of birds we got from them. I wouldn't worry about trying them. After the trouble they had last year, I'm sure they worked on the problems. All you can do is see how it goes for you. Good luck!

That looks just like the free exotic we got from MM- it turned out to be an americauna roo. Here's a pic of him all grown up:

We had a pretty good experience with them . 100 % survival of 39 chicks. Only problem was that I ordered 25 straight run standard cochins. They sent bantam cochins instead and it was months before I realized it so it was too late to complain/ask for a refund. I kept telling everyone "oh they will be huge, just wait" boy was I wrong.

I ordered 5 EE female chicks and ended up with 6... one turned out to be an americauna/EE roo.

Out of the 9 roo's I have, he has one of the best personalities... and he is very pretty (he turned out more reddish/brownish than yours). His nickname is "Pretty Boy."
