Explaining Chicken Math

Nobody outside my chicken addiction enjoy talking to me now. Plus I'm getting nicknamed the crazy chicken lady & the butt of jokes. Oh well. If they only knew what they were missing out on. I'm in search of a few more breeds, but trying hard to wait till this first two batches in brooders go to coops. 1 goes tomorrow! I forsee some Marans & Wyandottes in the near future lol

For whatever reason it is super easy to become fanatical about chickens, and it makes you want to talk about them all the time, which annoys people that aren't a part of the chicken crowd...lol. My husband is an tv and Internet technician and since we've had the chickens he has at least one story everyday about talking with someone about chickens. He goes to people's houses all day everyday and all across the board people with chickens love to talk about their chickens with people that also enjoy chickens. He met a guy today that fights chickens. He even called his extra cash his chicken fighting money... My husband noticed he had some chicks and asked the guy what kind they were he told my hubby they were fighting game chickens...seems that a person wouldn't tell a total stranger about their illegal activities

This is soooo me! I get called crazy chicken lady all the time now, even by my own mother. This is my first time keeping chickens and I'm left wondering how I ever lived without them. As far as I am concerned, there was my life before chickens (BC) and now my life after chickens (AC). lol It is pretty amazing to watch them grow. My husband agreed to getting them, but I am raising them. He says we need to start having "no chicken Mondays, Tuesday's, etc where we don't talk about them for that day. I am already thinking about how to build my own incubator and hatch eggs. I think finding this place saved my marriage! Hehehe

Yeah... I just talk to people less that are uninterested in chickens... Lol. My husband will inquire sometimes, but I think he's faking it for my benefit. It's not the first hobby that I've been super into and annoyed outsiders with. Luckily there's a forum for most everything.

Chicken math recently landed me with a baby turkey! Already had 7 ducks and 11 chickens but it started with just 4 chicks (a RIR, a barred rock, and two buff orpingtons) way back when. Im sure i would have more if i had more space to build more/bigger pens but I dont want to over crowd anyone.

Hehe! I came back with 2 more today too, making our brood a total of 9. I got an Ameraucana and a Cuckoo Marans. I figured I might as well put a few more chicks in the smaller brooder with the week-old Wyandottes, otherwise I would miss my window and they would be too old to accept them. I'm going to have the prettiest egg basket!
