I am very proud of our young men who give so much for the love of their country and for my freedoms. This picture reminds me of my Father-in-law and my nephews Kyle and David. Wonderful fine men!

My father felt that when he came home from Vietnam.

He lost a hand, a leg and an eye!

God bless him for this huge sacrifice to keep our country free.

Freedom isn't free.

I've not read all the posts here, so please forgive me if I repeat another comment.

My FIL served in the Navy during WWII. He was never much to talk about his time during the war, but he proudly wore his Navy-themed tattoo on his left forearm. After his death, we found a scrapbook with several photos of his time on one of the islands (couldn't tell you now which one, but DH knows). His memorial service was with military honors. He earned that!

I am Team Leader for the Girl Scouts in my area. Our girls were invited last year to participate in the placement of a monument for a Veteran's Highway dedication. Let me tell you this was the most moving, and deeply touching event I've ever in my life witnessed. To see the camaraderie among these men and women, from their 20's to their 80's. They were all of the same cloth. They were ONE.

The monument had a DPS escort for the entire 2 hour trip up from Phoenix, military fly-over, the whole nine yards. It was incredible.

They've invited us back for placement of a new flag pole with full military Flag Ceremony this year. You can bet I'll be there, and my daughter as well. To have the honor of being invited to participate and spend the day with these incredible people is more than words can describe for me.

Life today is so fast paced, sometimes we forget how we got here. If not for the sacrifices of our military service men and women of yesterday, today and tomorrow, we would not have the freedoms and privileges that we enjoy today.

For that, I am truly grateful.

Thank you for sharing this photo with us.

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - and I am feared.
I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I'm presently in the mountains of Afganistan and the hot and dusty deserts of Iraq and wherever freedom is needed.
I led my troops, I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
But my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those Whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,

I am proud.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE
FLAG,

OF THE
UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA,
AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR
WHICH IT STANDS,
ONE
NATION UNDER GOD,
INDIVISIBLE, WITH
LIBERTY

AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

We must never forget who
Gets the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we should be
Eternally grateful.

I watched the flag
Pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze

A young Marine
Saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at
Him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square
And eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men
Like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign
Soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes
Shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers'
Graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps
One night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler
Play
And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times

That Taps had meant 'Amen,'

When a flag had draped a
Coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the
Children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and
Husbands
With interrupted lives.

I
Thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in
Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free .

Enjoy Your Freedom
&God Bless Our Troops

Makes me proud. Our young men volunteer (sp?) knowing full well that this is a possibility but they love their country enough to take the risk. I always thank every veteran I meet. God Bless them.
