good afternoon all, what is the best way to help keep my hens and rooster's combs protected from frost bit and extreme cold temps, right now were sitting about minus 9 degrees. please help. thank you .

I am no chicken expert but from what I have read the best way is a well ventilated coop. As they roost at night and breath and poop the moisture in the coop will cause the frost bite. chickens don’t mind cold but the dont like being in direct drafts.
hope this helps

Add a heater and keep the temp above freezing? That's what I do.

I've read that people apply petroleum jelly to combs and wattles to prevent frostbite, but I've never tested it myself, so can't say it if works from first hand experience.

Creams and ointments can freeze and cause more frostbite. Block any direct drafts, but provide overhead ventilation from one end to the other to let out humid air.
