Hi All

I have been on this forum a few times lurking :) well as my fortieth birthday present I have been bought three young hens, a Plymouth rock, Sussex and Orpington. I live in the middle of a large town but have a decent sized garden and want my hens to free range.

Other than that, any helpful hints would be appreciated. I forgot to say that I want eggs from them but they have been bought primarily as pets :)

Thanks
Zippy

Hi :welcome Glad you joined the flock. Be sure to ask lots of questions everyone here very friendly and informative. Check out the learning centre it has lots of useful info. I'm sure you will get some eggs. My tip would be make sure they can't escape the garden and most of all enjoy your birds :frow https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/

So glad you could join our community! Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Enjoy your babies! I love to get those eggs AND keep them as pets. Such fun chickens are to keep!

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. My wife and I visited northern Ireland for our 37th wedding anniversary and loved your beautiful countryside. We have lots of members from northern Ireland and you can get in touch with them at https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=northern+ireland. You have chosen some good breeds for pets. I have had all three of those breeds (still have Orpingtons) and all three of them are docile. My children made lap pets out of our Orpingtons and Sussex. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
