Extremely concerned about my niece!

She isn't hurting in the area of her appendix. She is hurting around her navel when she eats. Could that still be it?

Possibly.

I am not a nurse, but my mother is an RN and my father is an internal medicine physician so this was the kind of stuff they made conversation with. We were once asked to keep our voices down at an Applebees because we were talking about staph infections and disgusting other patrons.

Unfortunately, a lot of conditions/diseases/issues begin with "flu-like symptoms" so it's always better to be safe than sorry.

thanks I did call my mom and told her mention the possibility to her doctor when she comes in in the morning.

The high white-cell count strongly indicates an infection of some kind.

My brother was kinda sickly as a child, scarlet fever, German measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, mono. I know he was rushed to the hospital with scarlet fever and his white cell count was very high although I'd have to ask mom exactly how high it was.

I just got chicken pox, an occasional cold and nothing else really seemed to bother me.

Then again, my mother was a pediatric ER nurse when she had me and nursed me for awhile so I probably got some immunity through her.

Again, the symptoms could be a lot of things so the doctors will just spend a lot of time just doing different tests and asking questions.

Yeah. The wait, is horrible. Hannah has little immunity...mom makes her stay too clean

She gets every single bug going around.

Cindi it certainly can't hurt to mention it to the docs. Brandon would double over in abdominal pain, not just that one area. And he was fine an hour later, then it would start over again. The first doc told me he was constipated and I gave the poor child an enema.

to you while you wait. It's scary when the little ones are ill.

On the plus side, kids are really resilient. Hopefully they will figure it out soon and she'll be up and running again.

Poor little mite... sending her massive (((hugs)) from over the pond and well wishes for speedy recovery....the waiting is awful for all of you.. keep positive when you can....and update asap......
