EXTREMELY SICK PEACHICK

Good point... I found out that Blue Seal makes a medicated turkey starter to prevent blackhead. Many feeds already have copper sulphate in them, which is supposed to help, but the one that Blue Seal makes has a stronger drug in it, but it is toxic to dogs and ducks.

Right now she has a Coccidia issue not blackhead so med chick starter is what she needs now. I would recommend getting fish zole in the future just in case of blackhead, but she needs the chick feed

...and you were probably really lucky, the only time I have seen the foamy yellow poop associated with coccidiosis is like the final stages after bloody poop. Your timeliness with the Corid saved the day.

Most people don't understand that you don't really get rid of coccidiosis or technically its underlying cause. Birds build up an immunity to a certain load. It is only if the load they are capable of carrying is exceeded that they have a problem. If your chicks were that infected in eight days they had a strong supply from somewhere. That's what you need to avoid or clean up. And yes every young bird should be on medicated chick starter with menonsin, amprol or other suitable treatment drug.

Yes, I know, but I just wanted to share some new info about the feed I found. Medicated chick starter is not going to hurt, but it does not always prevent coccidiosis, nor will it treat an outbreak, there's just not enough amprolium in it.

Some medicated starters, turkey and chick, also have another medicine for prevention of necrotic enteritis, it's what I use for my chicken chicks and ducklings, but the peas don't like it.

Edited to add: The name of the other drug is bacitracin.

I can't even begin to describe how much you guys have all helped me. I honestly didn't think the babies would make it through the night, but it's now 4:30pm and they're doing much, much better than they were last night. I am going to stock up on medication (fish zole, and the liquid safeguard) so that they're never sick without a proper treatment on hand. For now, I've noticed two of the chicks seem to be pooping normally, one of them (I'm suspecting the youngest one) had yellow, foamy poop. I'm thinking of keeping them on Corid until all three are normal. Also, the youngest one who was not eating, seems to like her food wet/soft so I've been mixing the corid water into the food. Any suggestions if I should keep the ratio 1tsp to 1 gallon or should I decrease it (tonight would make it 5 days since I started them on the Corid treatment)?.

Also, I'm thinking of not using safeguard on them after all since they seem to be doing better with just Corid. Petco did suggest using an antibacterial topical ointment that helps with wounds, bacteria, fungus and hookworm problems. We've been applying this to the chicks anal area just to ensure there are no maggot problems.

And now, PICTURES!

This is the youngest baby, and the one I worry about the most. Thankfully, she seems to be doing better.

This is the middle child. He was sick but not as much as the youngest one.

And here's the oldest and healthiest sibling.

A side question, what do you guys think of the the babies' coloring? Is the white and black feather mix normal for India blues?

So glad to see the babies are doing better!

You can really get great advice here.

It looks like Youngest and Middle have white feathers on their wings?
If so, they are not 100% IB.
