Extremely stinky dark poop with high moisture content (not cecal) and swollen abdomen

Ok, no vet until Tuesday! :( six more days before I can have a fecal done and figure out what's up. Ugh. So frustrating.

What should I do for her in the mean time? I could do a corid treatment?

She's active and runs around all day, no poofing up or isolation. Not yet, at least.

Chickens are easy, they say! No problems, they say! ;)

Oh, her last egg was 092217. Her last safeguard treatment was the same day. The last day I saw round worms in her poop was 092117. She hasn't been in the nesting box at all.

Hi there! Thanks for asking! She's still perky, I figured putting the mean hen who picks on her the most in Chicken Jail would be the best way to reduce her stress. She ate breakfast!

I followed her until she morning-pooped and it was a wet, sloppy, dark, stinky mess again. But her mid day poops were mostly normal, if a little bit wet. The neighbors must think I'm mad. Hunched over looking through poop and then smelling it! Hahaha!!

I'm thinking she should be ok to wait until Tuesday to see the vet. I'm treating the water with corid and confining Henzilla has really reduced her stress load.

I'm glad she is doing well!

Separating your bully is a good idea. This may reduce the stress on more than just her.

You have officially joined the poop inspecting club - LOL

Keep us posted - let us know what the vet says.

Yay! Are there badges? There should be badges!

Well, I just checked on them all in the coop because I could give a once over while they're sleepy... And found her abdomen is hard. Huh. I'll check again in the morning. :(

Poo update: day 4 on corid. Everyone is normal except the one marans still. Her morning poop was still high moisture but 1) stinky but not AS stinky and 2) normally colored!!!

She had the worst infestation of round worms. I'm wondering if the cocci parasites found a way in once the round worms were out.

However..... She still is running hotter than the others and has a large swollen backside, no egg (but her feathers are growing in so....still thinking that's molt related?) and has that high moisture poop.

Vet Tuesday!!

I'm glad she is still going.

The swollen backside is concerning, hopefully the vet can give her a thorough going over on Tuesday and determine the cause.

Please keep us posted.

Oof. Took her and a fecal sample to the traveling vet. He knows chickens, owns jubilee orps, the "big fat English ones," pigeons and hundreds of finches. When he saw my marans he exclaimed "ooh, a Frenchie! Look at those feet!" So he passed the "does this person know chickens?" test by miles.

That said, the fecal came back negative for worms, protazoa and giardia.

He felt her abdomen and said it could be acites but it isn't bad. She did lay an egg yesterday (last was 092217) and is back in the nest now as I write this. He said she looks healthy and the only things left it could be need lab analysis and his culture swabs were expired!! Looks like I have to wait another week for diagnosis! :(

However, she looks good other than the stinky, loose, smelly poop, which is now just in the morning. The only problem is, now I'm seeing loose poops from some of the other birds.

All I can do is keep everything clean and fresh until then! :(
